Last night the director and the cast of sequel to 1996's Independence Day gathered together on the set of the studio in New Mexico for a special Q&A session. In attendance were Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, Jeff Golblum, director Roland Emmerich, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, Maika Monroe and Chinese Actress Angelababy. Director producer and writer of the sequel Emmerich was introduced first to announce the movies new title "Independence Day Resurgence" before each of the cast where asked where asked a question in turn. In the final five minutes of the 30 minute session some questions from social platform Twitter were also asked...
In a nutshell (sorry) what we learnt from last nights Q&A session was...
- Human technology has been combined with "harvested" alien technology that allows for anti-gravity engines and most likely energy shields and energy weapons (pictured below).
- Goldblums character David Levinson is now the director of a space defense program established after the first movie in preparation for another invasion.
- Popular actor Liam Hemsworth will play disgraced pilot Jake Morrison whom now pilots the Moon Tug a sort of lunar forklift (pictured below).
- Sela Ward's President Lanford will be aggresive and hard edged, former President Whitmores (Bill Pullman) daughter Patricia played by Maika Monroe will play a secret service agent in her employ.
- Chinese actress Angelababy will play an orphaned Chinese pilot.
We also learnt that the scene in the first movie where David and Julius Levinson where driving into Washington DC (when everybody else was driving out of the city) was partly improvised on the day, with some of the comments in the final cut actually being in regard to the actors' experience from working on set that day.
Independence Day Resurgence will invade cinemas worldwide 24th June 2016.
