The past seven days have been so busy when it comes to science fiction and superhero news that this week we have had to split the weekly recap into two articles; one for the sci fi movies that have been in the news and one for superhero movie news. For the fans of superheroes and comic book characters this week has been especially special with the official release of the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, jam packed with lots of awesome footage. And while Avengers: Age of Ultron has been bombarding us TV spots, Marvel Entertainment did release over two hours of footage from the movies red carpet premiere in Los Angeles. And the of course there was Ant-Man...
Earlier in the week Marvel Studios released the first full length trailer for Ant-Man. The trailer, filled with humor and action, reminded us of both Guardians of the Galaxy in its use of humor, and of the first Iron Man movie in terms of tone. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige also assured us that movie plays an integral and important part within the MCU. The movie, starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll opens in theatres July 17th.
The Ant-Man trailer which you can watch HERE, while showing off the movies microscopic visual effects revealed the movies reliance on humor, which when considering the hero is capable of shrinking down to the size of an ant is a welcome revelation as previous teasers looked too serious. The humor in the film is best exemplified by the closing scene which sees our hero and villain fighting against each while speeding along the train tracks of a... Thomas the Tank Engine train set.
The red carpet premiere for Avengers: Age of Ultron also took place early last week at the legendary Dolby theatre in Los Angeles. All of the cast where present at the event with Marvel Entertainment releasing the the full, uncut coverage of the event on their YouTube channel - watch it HERE. The sequel to 2012's record breaking Avengers has also been bombarding us with movie clips and TV spots as we edge ever closer to its May 1st release date.
Of course the biggest news for comic book movie fans this past week was the early release of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser. After the release of a, simply lacklustre teaser earlier in the wee which just showed us the new costumes for the sparring heroes on display studio Warner Bros. was forced into releasing their full length teaser ahead of next Tuesdays planned release when the trailer was leaked in low resolution across the net. This is NOT the teaser that was shown at last years San Diego Comic Con, but a whole new teaser - you can watch it HERE.
The tone of the teaser seemed to be portraying neither hero as outright heroes. Superman, after the events of 2013's Man of Steel has not been widely accepted as mankinds saviour, with many voicing their concerns and worries in the teaser of having such a powerful being watching over them. Batman on the other hand, despite being a more mature rendition of the character still seems beset with anger and rage from the murder of his parents. With each of the two characters being represented in such shades of grey, neither is the villain nor the hero in this confrontation. The trailer does give use our first real look at each characters new costume as well as our first real look at the new Batmobile and the Batwing.
