While we also knew they would come back, IDR takes a much darker, apocalyptic sense of what the resurgence will be. With mysterious soldiers being flown around, and creepy alien skull poles, IDR is looking like sci-fi thriller.
Much can be learned about the sequel, we can see the hybrid technology provides excellent space battle capabilities. The mass UN Air Force hangar shows an incredible array of jets that cannot compare to the level of F-16's casted in the original movie.
What is startling the most is the massive ship tumbling down to Earth's surface. We can see Judd Hirsch's character speeding away in a boat as what looks like a meteor of alien destruction.
