The movie production rights mess regards some of Marvels properties means that while Marvel may have created and own all other rights to certain characters, they are unable to produce any films based upon these properties, and thus cannot tie them into the MCU. Such properties include 20th Century Fox and the X-Men movie franchise, and did up until recently include Sony Pictures and the Spider-Man franchise, but the recent deal between Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige has paid amend to that, whereas Universal Pictures possession of the movie production rights to the Hulk are a little complicated. 20th Century Fox doesn't just own the rights to the X-men, but also the 60's and 70's cartoon hit The Fantastic Four. Eager to jump onto the cinematic shared universe bandwagon Fox have developed a reboot of the film franchise with an all new cast and more serious narrative, helmed by Chronicle director Josh Trank, in the hope of tying the movie into the X-Men movie cinematic universe.
The Fantastic Four hits theatres August 7th, 2015.
