Dr. Miles Bennett Dyson To Return In Terminator: Genesis? | Scified

The plot of Terminator 2: Judgment Day centered around the idea of preventing Judgment Day by stopping Skynet, the franchises antagonist, from ever being built. To achieve this Sarah Connor attempted to assassinate the man whom would develop Skynet from reverse engineering the damaged chip from the Terminator sent back to 1984 - Dr. Miles Bennett Dyson (Joe Morton). Though Sarah could not kill Miles, he sacrificed his life while destroying all of his work. His death prevented Skynet from launching the prophecized Judgment Day attack on mankind on August 29th 1997, as he had not developed the system. However, July 24th 2004, developed by Cyber Research Systems, Skynet launched its apocalyptic attack on mankind.

Unconfirmed reports claim that Courtney B. Vance (pictured above), fondly remembered as Seaman Jones from John McTiernan's 1990 Hunt for the Red October, will be playing Miles Dyson in Terminator: Genesis, presumably within scenes set in 1994 AKA Terminator 2. We'll post more information upon confirmation.

Frying Your Noodle

The source of this articles news labels Dr. Miles Bennet Dyson as "the original creator of SkyNet". Suprisingly, considering the sources subject matter, this asceration is incorrect, for two simple reasons...

  1. August 29th 1997 was never Judgment Day - This date was only prophecized in Terminator 2, as a direct result from Dysons knowledge of AI being "advanced" from reverse engineering the Neural Network Processor from the T-800 sent back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor.
  2. The "first" Skynet would have been developed without any time travel infractions before its development, and as such would not have been developed from reverse engineerings of an advanced chip by anyone (for there was no chip) - The first Skynet was originally developed at a point in time when humans, uncoerced by advanced tech, would have developed such AI at a natural rate.

Contrary to common belief The events of Terminator 2 did NOT change the future, delaying Judgment Day. In fact it was events in The Terminator that changed the future, potentially bringing Judgment Day forward to August 29th 1997. John Connor sent a reprogrammed T-800 to 1994, to protect himself from termination and to prevent this ("I have detailed files"). Terminator 2 corrected the future by preventing a Skynet coerced earlier date of Judgment Day, restoring it to its original date.
