Avatar: Fire and Ash will be the conclusion of the first Avatar saga – says James Cameron – and if the last two planned films, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are to come to fruition, they will be kickstarting a brand new story! Speaking to io9, Cameron revealed he's cooled off a bit on his tenacity to get all 5 Avatar films to the big screen. He's been quite candid lately about his indifference, signaling that if Fire and Ash don't generate the dollars he's anticipating, Avatar 4 and 5 may never see the light of day. However, if Fire and Ash proves successful and people still show enough interest in the property, Avatar 4 will open a new path in the Pandoraverse, telling a completely new story, separate to the first trilogy of films:

I don’t think of Fire and Ash as a sequel. I think it was a culmination of a saga. I like ‘saga’ better than ‘sequel’ because a lot of where we were going with the story was in the original architecture of the story. So if you think of this as the third act, I think that’s healthier.
Speaking on the Avatar 4 and 5 being their own saga:
It’s its own saga. It’s got a beginning and a middle and an end that plays out across these two films. They’re vaporware right now.
Actors Jack Champion (who plays Spider) and Trinity Bliss (who plays Tuk) expressed their hopes that 4 and 5 get made, however, adding that the last two films are a mind-bending, crazy story that they feel has to be told.
As it stands, if all goes well, Avatar 4 is slated for a 2029 release date and Avatar 5 is aiming for a 2031 release date. The next month and a half will decide whether or not they happen, though. So, if you want the Avatar saga to continue, make sure you book your tickets and tell your friends to see Avatar: Fire and Ash this month!
