No way I think Sir Ridley would definetly do a sequal himself look the man is not that young anymore and if it were me , I would most def check out with a cool legacy like Alien and Prometheus and people still raving on about my works through the ages.

Whenever I watch Alien, I just try to overlook the outdated tech that's in the movie.
I let my mind just imagine that the screens are flat, the operating system is state of the art, that everything we see them use is even more advanced tech that what we have today. I just pretend. Alien still to me is all about the atmosphere, the tight camera shots, the suspense, the claustrophobic conditions. Those things always trump the outdated tech. Just saying, that's all.

i actually would not mind if James directed it. aliens was great and he is not always action, ever see the abyss? that movie is amazing, one of the best science fictions ever in my opinion, and he probably should not write it, i would like the same writers who do Prometheus to write the sequel but James is a very good director and visualizer.

Maybe the Nostromo was built before the Prometheus as an interplanetary tug, and was upgraded to ftl after the events of prometheus. It was easier to give the new engines old fashioned interfaces than rewire the entire ship. I assume both ships have ftl drives. As even at light speed stars are decades away at best

I believe David might survive. I'd like to see Janek(Elba) survive also. Maybe he finds a way to set the Prometheus on a collision course, while he, Weyland, Shaw and David manage to escape in another ship. Then, they go in pursuit of the Space Jockey wanting to destroy Earth. That would be where the 2nd film takes off at.

I think what is going on there is that Ripley is in effect baiting it... But at the same time she is literally scared sheetless and cant bare to look over at it while she is trying to maintain her courage. Up until this point, she really has not been directly confronting it.
@ Xeno... I think it was explained that at this point, the creature is starting to get week and is dying and is just curling up in a dark, corner like many animals would "at the end". When Ripley realizes that it doesn't want to budge, she has to flush it out with the hot steam venting in order to piss it off enough to get it to move.

When a movie's producers tell us "This is going to set a new bar for SF, be a deep, thought provoking piece about man's place in the universe, with plenty of action!!!!" --
then I pick A with most fanboys/girls agreeing with the producers out of desperation. I mean, c'mon, many people thought Gladiator was thought-provoking, f***ing Gladiator!
Of course I hope I am wrong but I think the better way is to go in with low expectations, no way to be disappointed with A or B.
ReplyMilosPrometheus Forumtell the truth......Apr 1, 2012
Going for 'B' all the way. Anything else and I will be disappointed.
ReplyDimaBPrometheus Forumtell the truth......Apr 1, 2012
I hope it is both and, on top of all, a well-told story. Don't know what "overly hollywood" is, but I doubt it is possible to depict something so epic without the huge budget. I am sure they saved on actors' compensation by passing on Jolie, Portman and such and hope the money they had available was invested wisely. "Indie" definitely would not work for something so ambitious.
ReplyDutchPrometheus Forumtell the truth......Apr 1, 2012
B is the closest to what I expect, except I think Ridley has 2 more films in the sci fi realm, so I dont see Prometheus as a stand alone.
ReplyLord EnnioAlien Movies ForumAlien had just 1 flaw for me....Apr 1, 2012
I'd have to say the biggest flaw is how the audience knows the creature is behind Ripley, yet they try to sell it as if she didn't know it was there.

@ the coming For Alien films: Depressing-good. Carla's husband from Cheers-bad
I think the autopsy works . . . this is horror people!!!! However, I think, just as Ripley was a character people grew to love, Newt (not me but most) and Hicks (gotta keep him!) were characters people grew to love. So killing them off at the very beginning of Alien 3 kind of sucks, However having cute little Newt ripped to shreds halfway through when we just know the little kid has to survive would have been brilliant!!!
ReplyRuthPrometheus Forumtell the truth......Apr 1, 2012
As I've said, I'm pretty much an optimist when talking/thinking about Prometheus, so I expect this to be as much as similar to B
ReplyLord EnnioPrometheus Forumtell the truth......Apr 1, 2012
I'm hoping for B. If there is some of option A there, then let it be just enough to add a nice balance to the film, not a gross-out fest.

Folks, please stop with the April Fools jokes. Once is enough. James Cameron is a god among directors. He gave the Alien franchise new life! If anybody wrecked the franchise, it would have to be the guy who directed Alien: Resurrection.

1) It's not a prequel; idea of Alien prequel makes no sense to me... It does pay tribute to and is tied to Alien, but you cannot call it prequel
2) They can be humanoid or whatever, I just hope they are disturbingly scary
3) I am grateful they did not choose Portman, they would be the ones saying "we were soooo wrong" ))) I think any actress who is "too famous" would be wrong. International cast of "not the most bancable actors" is just right.
4) I think we will see an egg about to burst
5) it will be there with the others, but I need to see it first and truly do not want to be disappointed

@Canada phil: bloody he'll! Interesting parallel you suggested there!
Instead of the elephantine figure being the humanoid god in a suit... Impregnating things or somehow overseeing and engineering... The poor guy is strapped the chair - like Prometheus to the rock - and is impregnated and 'burst' out of repeatedly - like Prometheus' eternally pecked liver.
Horrible thought.

Actually that makes a lot of sense that that SJ was leaving for earth with the Xeno eggs if we follow the bio-weapon theory. He was going to release them against the humans. Whatever crashed him will hopefully be described in Prometheus somehow. I really can't see that not being worked in, I mean he had that scene for a reason..and we'll hopefully learn why it was there.

Well supposing the Jockeysthis, seemingly innocent and waiting for a million year or so of evolution and then, "Hello my baby...".
April fools!
Seriously now. "I think that they could be where the Engineers fill their ampules. Insert an organism into the casket and the dna gets rewritten into a parasitic organism/virus that is useful to the Engineers be it a weaponized xenomorph or a biomechanical space suit or even ship components. The engineers gave us directions because they knew that by the time we got advanced enough to find them, we would have enough population to provide tons of raw materials."
Why not there's nothing to contradict the idea although it would be more likely that humans would be used as a means to make more and more space jockeys, not unlike Threshold.

@AlsoknownAsNate. Maybe it's more than just a suite. One can never tell when listening to Ridley. Ridley grabs your attention by not really giving a lot away. Imo, the other Alien movies really didn't ground anything, seeing that the concept for those movies weren't Ridley's. I really don't see the connection due to the different type of mood and environment in the first movie.
"Elephant-esque species just seems too of a George Lucas universe." I just don't see that. To me that's an insult to Giger's vision and Ridley's concept. What we see in the first movie is something on a level that George Lucas can only dream of. The unknown, where the rules of nature are not like are own but very convincing. Don't get me wrong, Lucas work is good, but when I hear English accents on another planet in Star Wars, it's both comical and not convincing.
Star Wars is a movie with a bunch of special effects and semi o.k. plot. Alien is a movie with some of the best artist vision and concept storu that takes us beyond our human perception and into a world of creatures and possibilities that are very convincing.
