WhyDontTheyFreezeHimPrometheus ForumHUGE SPOILER FOR PROMETHEUS
If this is true and Shaw really is Ripleys mother, then how is it possible that Shaw kills herself? Is Ripley born before Shaw kills herself? Sounds diSSappointing. I was expecting better from Ridley S.

I have to admit it's sometimes difficult to curb my tongue but only in expressing or relating something not clanking on somebody or their views. I wouldn't be here if it was all about flaming people or trying to top someones clearly perverted ideas (plenty of sites for that elsewhere). The operative word in all of this is taste, or tact, if you will

Not sure about the different temples, as I still dont know whether the prometheus crew will only find one temple or several On that distant planet. but the temple surely display what species did evolve through statues, murals and Prints on the walls.

silicaPrometheus ForumWhat Do You Think The 'Embarrassing' & 'Shock' Factor Of The Movie Is Gonna Be?
To anyone who hasn't seen that snippet of the caesarian scene from the trailer in slow-mo, i think that scene is gonna seem "embarrassingly similar" to the original Alien scene. I think that's all he means, pure and simple. And most people haven't caught that part of the trailer yet since it goes by so fast.

Why does everyone here feel Cameron ruined the franchise? What were they going to do, make 4 movies about 1 Alien hiding in a corner hunting everyone down? Aliens was one of the best sequels ever made and really spawned the mythology of the Alien life cycle. The only thing that ruined the franchise was Fox with the debacle that occurred around Alien 3 and the subsequent poor movies and money making platforms that followed.

I just bought last week 1500 dollars of furniture from probably the largest furniture chain in the second largest city in the country, and i was rung up from a DOS terminal. Im not at all concerned in the differences in technology between Alien and Prometheus.

I also commented on this ... but after hearing others saying 'it's ok' then I have excepted it also and don't mind the differences ... I'm very anal at continuity but also like to see 'new things' in a sequel as it will have the lastest tech, there's no getting away from it ... Talking of continuity ... here's one already ... lol ... no I'm not slating it ... brb ... knock at the door ... Continuity Error-01:

Hi all, just a quick one to say hello :). Has anyone noticed in the trailers so far that the Space jockey looks more of a human size than when looking at the original one in Alien? The arm alone in Alien looks about the length of tom skerrit?

Whatever. At my work (Alien), there's 10 year old Windows XP, MS Office 2003(!). 14 inch screens! Pentium 4 pc's! No WiFi at all. No 3G! No reception at all on our smartphones! Internet slow as hell. It's a black hole in terms of ICT. At home (Prometheus)? Windows 7, OS X Lion, etc. i5 and i7 processors! Network harddisks! Tablets, touch, drawing tablets! Cloud! WiFi! 27 inch screens! All the reception you need!

Like I said before.... I may go even further in my speculation that each temple is meant for a specific species. We see the decapitated body of a Space Jockey in the Human Temple. I think the Gods forbid mixing of the genetic materials from each temple. Space Jockey may get too ambitious for their won good and the Gods punish them in worst possible ways: Off with their heads!!! But seriously with the anti miscegenation message there...

@XenomorphX ... Well the beauty of 3D Printing now means you can make whatever models you want ... for yourself ... if you can be bothered ... I love technology ... 3D printers are reasonably cheap these days ... Oh and I got no Alien collectables ... except the Dark Horse comic book that has all the Alien (War?) in it ...

Thanks....hadn't seen that in a long time, I've been looking at old clips of Ridley lately. It's my belief that in general, people don't change all that much over the years. I've been reviewing him mostly talking about his past films, both before their release and after to see how he describes them. I'm coming back to the fact that after all the analysis and nutty speculation that has gone on via the Net, we've already been told what the film is. Just not how the paths within the film look. And the more "codetalk" I see in these old clips, the more I come to think that what we've seen of images so far are the mere introduction to the much larger and profoundly expansive story that has been hidden from us with enormous care and great diligence.....not from a fear that if it was crap no one would want to see it, but the opposite reason....its genuine greatness.

Precisely, many retail stores still use transaction systems from the late 80s. Also, considering the information surplus we have today, I would imagine computers in the future would cut out the fat and just provide pure information. Data storage in the future will be specific to simple data points that can be collated, especially when the data is coming from a blue-collar mining vessel like the Nostromo. Not only that, but a computer system like the one they use on the Nostromo wouldn't deplete the ship's energy reserve as quickly. Finally, the operating system they use, though simple, may be much more stable. Software these days is buggy as shit. Data coming from a science expedition, like the Prometheus, may be more complex. The "aesthetic" in which the information is presented could be dependent on the importance of the information itself.

My take is the merger between Weyland/Yutani is that it takes place after this Prometheus mission turns out to be a disaster, and financially ruins Weyland. Afterward Yutani buys a broke Weyland Corp. out.

There's nothing wrong with speculating, I just want want us to pull back on the reigns of saying we KNOW what this is, how good it is, that Ridley's a genius or not becuase of what we haven't even seen yet and start acting like mature adults who can argue and specualte without that smarmy, 'well, I know it's this, just because' attitude or 'it won't and can't possibly be good, just because it won't be what I want it to be.' We sound like spoiled, insolant brats at that point....

@Craigamore... Granted, but the simple fact is, this franchise is completely full of overt sexuality. That is what is Giger's "art" is based on. He doen't DENY that. So this is either going to be a scenario where R.S finally says, "you know what, lets go with this now" or lets just keep this is simple as frightened people battling the retro '50s blue or green skinned tall fella in a glorified smash and bang fight. Everything in organic reality has a purpose. So its either going to have to come do them simply saying, you know what, it doesn't mean anything.... its all just a weird look that our art department prefers, or they are finally going to have try to explain, the phallic this and the opening that. Oh and @Necro... Giger is a "weirdo". Probably even very emotionally disturbed as many "genius artists" are. I think his only wife in the 70's killed herself not even 1 year into their marriage. I dont think I have ever seen a pic of him where he doesn't seem to have dark, crazed eyes. He was probably refered to the "loney weird one" by kids in his school growing up as a child.

My thoughts exactly, TK. A next generation PC system may easily be able to exchange files and information too easily to be be viewed by miners. A DOS based PC system designed only for labor vessels for security reasons sounds accurate. A totally different OS, to keep the Company's secrets secret.

Maybe the crew of the nostromo were just "space truckers" miners who were only afforded the most basic equipment needed to do their job-mine ore. (They were landing on unknown planets to mine and weren't even given weapons in case they ran into hostile beings) IMO

I watched Blade Runner again last night, and it blew me away- again. The complexity and subtlety of the ideas portrayed in the film still holds up after 30 years, as well as RS's uncompromising style in telling the story he wants to. He's had 30 years to imagine a new world. I don't think anyone will be disappointed, as long as we are patient and trust Mr Scott.

I started a new thread on this in the alien forum, i said: I was thinking about how timeless these movies look, except one of the giveaways is the old DOS based computers...then I tried in true geek tradition to try and explain why they are so simple I was thinking maybe the distances across the universe are so vast and turbulent, that data needs to be kept concise and minimal, so old DOS prompt interfaces are more favoured over high tech user interfaces, for sheer practicality Another explanation is maybe a war wiped out most of technology, leaving behind a mad max type civilisation of scraps..Mankind then tried to rebuild the technology they once had as the knowledge is there, however this was done in uneven steps, some technologies which were very advanced were rescued with band aid methods and stuff that has been recoded is reminiscent of the old dos systems
