I get that the LV426 derelict could have already happened many many years before Prometheus, may be refered to at some point in this film but what happens in this story will simply run parallel to that.

I'm not going to explain what she was saying for her, but she said "stylistically (referring to the movie)", which I take to mean the style of movie. Oh and if she's a he, my mistake! There's an argument to be made that, when asked the question, Ridley (or anyone) could have just said there is no gap in technology! And there are creative ways of justifying that. The derelict has been described as a living, organic entity - probably one that can go thru various changes - "It's Changing..." "Into what?". Grow old and die, etc..

makes for some interesting reading and ups the anticipation a notch or two.

I disagree goodkat untill some time ago, we couldn't proove there were other planets around other stars. Then i think it's quite arrogant that they would have said, well the only ones are the ones around the solar system :s of course i wasn't surprised when some weeks ago there was "big" news there are billions of planets in our milky way

That's not arrogance, quite the opposite really. He's right in that we don't know that we were the first sentient race on the planet but it's definitely not arrogant to suggest that we are, evidence after all does support that we are the first (so far). The worst you could do is fill in what you don't know with something that has no factual evidence to back it up like aliens or god, now that's arrogant.

I'm not reading all that, condense it down into one or two words max.

I'll try and re-phrase by way of the following: While you de-contextualise and raise issue with the notion of "having to know", what you actually go on to describe are the components of Plot, as a basis for that issue. However, I do not say that we have to know "all" components of Plot, nor "most" components of Plot, nor the components of Plot that "we" choose, or demand, or hold that we "deserve"? I am very simply saying that, for successful Plot, we do have to be given [i]some[/i] components of Plot - as without [i]some,[/i] components of Plot, there can be no larger element of Plot at all: and I say that in the context of the other basic elements of Story, that share similar terms. I do [i]not[/i] and have not said that it is us for demand or determine what the individual components are - of course, that would be absurd - I am simply saying that most of the elements must exist, to one degree or another, in order for there to be a successful Story in the first case - because that is how Fiction works. You continue to draw reference with Actual Life, but Fiction is, I thought it apparent, is something [i]other[/i] than Actual Life. [i]Fiction[/i], is composed of essential elements that allow it to achieve the objective of communicating an idea - if your objective was to walk up some stairs, use of your legs is an essential element in achieving that objective: and that is just the way things work, if you would enjoy to climb stairs, at all. You may test the theory by trying to develop a Story; where nothing happens, to nobody, for no reason, nowhere - and at no point in time. Then you may try to communicate that Story to somebody, or develop it into a Screenplay or Novel. That will not succeed. THat makes sense, I just allways wondered since in deleted scenes of Alien you are shown that a xenomorph can infect a human or host and change it into a egg (face hugger). I thought maybe an alien escaped or was picked up accidentaly on the planet and burst out of the pilot and transformed the spacejockey crew, wich has now lost control, into host (eggs), with a warning to stay away.

I always thought the eggs were 'wild' xenos, ie those that have been laid by a queen that had hatched from a host. The glass containers were raw samples that had been bred in a lab. Keeping samples laying around in containers would be a lot safer than having eggs where facehuggers are likely to jump out when you happen to go in the 'lab' wouldn't be safe storage.

I think its a huge stretch to assume its the same planet. When the LV426 settlers arrived they must have done a survey to see where the best place was to settle. Its one thing missing a ship but also missing 5 huge pyramids that the Prometheus crew had no trouble spotting from space is a bit to much of a leap in faith. I am also sure that I read an early interview with RS who said that the Prometheus crew WILL NOT meet the SJ from the Alien ship

Definitely like the idea that these are the various genetic dooms of humanity/civilizations, that are held prisoner in the various pods. Wouldn't explain a lot, but would certainly explain the naive threat the crew of Prometheus brings to the table. Stopping/killing the crew, in this scenario, could very well be a benevolent deed for humanity.
