The teaser for Ultraman Ginga S has been released. It's not too impressive-- it features Ultraman Victory's outrageous design conjuring images of Johnny Bravo's hair.
The sequel to Ultraman Ginga will have toku favorite Koichi Sakamoto directing. (Whom I've previously mentioned having worked on several incarnations of Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, Kyoryuger and the upcoming Space Sheriff projects.) I sincerely hope he can bring some life back to the Ultraman franchise. Ultraman Ginga had only moderately interesting ideas, but much of its production was squandered on the “spark doll” idea and miniature woodland areas. I, admittedly, didn't make it through the extremely short eleven episode series.
I'm not exactly pleased with the idea of a second Ginga season, but Sakamoto's involvement has my ears perked-- even if I don't necessarily believe it'll be enough to look past Victory's massive forehead. Aesthetics are a big deal in the Ultra franchise and I think they botched this one. What do you think?
Ultraman Ginga S takes place two years after last season's final episode. It will air 16 episodes beginning July 5th. Enjoy the teaser:
