Although the new Attack on Titan opens today, the mini-series, which expands the live action universe, will air on Japanese television two weeks later.
The three episode miniseries, called Attack on Titan: Beacon for Counterattack, will largely center around Zoe Hange, a scientist obsessed with studying the titans. The trailer fits the style and feel of the live action movies, though there are noticeably less shots of actual titans for the television incarnation. However, there seems to be a surprising amount of multi-directional maneuvering involved.
The miniseries trailer begins with footage from the movie, check it out below:
The rate that the live action universe of Attack on Titan is being pumped out is pretty tight. At the moment it's unclear how important the miniseries is to the film's sequel (opening in September) or how many cast members from the films will show up.
It is also unknown if FUNimation, who owns the North American rights to the live action Attack on Titan films, will be releasing the miniseries as well.
Attack on Titan opens today (August 1st) in Japan. The film's sequel, Attack on Titan: End of the World opens September 9th of this year. Both films are directed by Shinji Higuchi. Attack on Titan: Beacon for Counterattack will air on Japanese television, August 15th.
