This weekend saw the thirteenth movie in the much coveted Marvel Cinematic Universe release in theaters to almost universal acclaim, but the first movie in the third phase of cinema releases are but one side of the MCU. Through US TV network ABC (including Freeform TV) and the VOD service Netflix, Marvel Studios have extended their cinematic universe into ten shows based on their popular characters either in development or enjoying moderate success.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. paved the way and has been followed by Daredevil, Agent Carter and Jessica Jones with new shows Damage Control, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Cloak and Dagger culminating in a Defenders serial, all of which are expected to air soon. The tenth and newest addition to the MCU's TV family will be a TV serial based upon The Punisher. Marvel and Netflix have confirmed that due to the characters popularity in season two of Daredevil the character will receive his own show with Jon Bernthal returning for the role. Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) will be the show's showrunner.
