Despite much speculation that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer or teaser was to air during the superbowl, fans of the four ninja brothers were left waiting. Although a recent toy line gave fans a preview of what to expect in terms of the heroes' new appearance, no-one could really judge the revamped look until we saw them in action. Now, finally after an eternity of expelling more patience than a master of ninjitsu we can give our first impressions on the first trailer (below)...
First Impressions
As a fan of the original cartoon TV series, and of the comics during the late 80's and early 90's, I too shared a worry that this re-invention of the franchise would be a step too far. But after watching the above trailer. Both Michaelangelo's and Leonardo's (shown at the end) personalities and mannerisms match those of the original comic, and the new, more individualized look isn't as garish as fans feared it would be. Though the movie is reported to alter the mythos somewhat (as is to be expected), the cast is well chosen; especially William Fitchner as Erich Sachs (Oroku Saki in the comics/cartoons) AKA the Shredder. Though it remains to be seen whether Megan Fox has the hot-headed spirit that April O'Neil is famous for.
As the inevitable barrage of trailers, teasers, clips, TV spots and posters are released we will see if this movie continues to pleasantly surprise like an steaming hot pepperoni pizza or reminds us of the smell of rotten garbage.
