After some rather divisive images of the new Megazord, it became all but clear that the Lionsgate creative team was trying to distance their Power Rangers from the original series--For better or worse.
It should come as no surprise that Alpha 5, who will be voiced by Bill Hader, is equally divisive. That said, it could have been a great deal worse. Although Alpha retains much of his red color scheme and saucer head (which I found surprising), the rest is a much busier, alien design. It's interesting that in an attempt to look less like a retro-robot, he comes off having similarities to the creatures from 1953's War of the Worlds.

What are your thoughts on the new Alpha 5? Is it similar enough to the original? Is it a passable update? Or does it take things a little too far? Sound off in the comments below.
