The sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim: Uprising has officially wrapped filming today after a successful 6-month shoot. Having kicked off in Australia last year, production eventually moved to China where the remainder of the film's scenes were shot. John Boyega shared the following photo on Instagram and Twitter to celebrate the culmination:
Boyega and Scott Eastwood are the leads for Uprising, both young Jaeger pilots. Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba's character from the original, Stacker Pentecost. Eastwood's lineage is unknown. It is assumed that they will be piloting the new Gipsy Avenger Jaeger against a host of new Kaiju enemies. Charlie Day, Burn Gorman and potentially Rinko Kikuchi will all be reprising their roles as well! Charlie Hunnam is not expected to return, however.
Prepare for a ridiculously fun marketing campaign ahead as Pacific Rim: Uprising now enters post production! Expect viral material to begin surfacing later this summer.
