A live-action Voltron movie is currently in development at Universal Pictures! Following the successful reaction to 2013's mecha-Kaiju brawler flick Pacific Rim, fans have been calling for a live-action treatment of Voltron and it seems those calls have been heard and answered.
According to Deadline, following the acquisition of DreamWorks Animation Studios, Universal adopted a live-action Voltron project which had already been quietly in development prior to the deal. Their report also names David Hayter (X-Men, Watchmen) as the film's screenwriter. No plot or projected release date have yet been revealed.
Voltron is certainly a profitable franchise and one that falls right inline with partner studio Legendary Entertainment's niche.
