Dune 3 will be called Dune: Messiah, Denis Villeneuve is currently penning the script!

Dune: Part Two is currently playing in theaters and is taking the world by storm! The Dune sequel has already garnered over $80 million domestically at the box office and continues to gain momentum. While Warner Brothers have not officially given Dune 3 the green light yet, Director Denis Villeneuve is wasting no time getting to work on the next chapter. Called Dune: Messiah, Villeneuve is currently penning the third film's script. Speaking to website Den of Geek, Villeneuve had this to say:

I think you cannot avoid Paul’s terrible purpose, that’s the structure of this whole enterprise. Saying this, I do not like to comment on Dune Messiah because I’m writing it, and when I’m writing, I love to shut up because it’s a very delicate time where things are fragile, ideas evolve. I like to talk about movies when they are alive, finished, and strong enough to walk by themselves. Dune Messiah is barely an embryo. - Denis Villeneuve via Den of Geek

With the mounting success Dune: Part Two continues to see at the box office, it's very likely that Warner Brothers will give Dune 3 / Messiah the green light soon. While Denis Villeneuve is currently working on a number of new film projects, it's possible his third Dune film could be given top priority to take advantage of the franchise's current popularity.
