The war against an invasive, hostile Alien bug species will continue in an all-new Starship Troopers reboot! Columbia Pictures are currently developing a completely new take on the popular sci-fi franchise, based on the novel by Robert A. Heinlein, according to The Hollywood Reporter!
Screenwriters of 2009's Friday the 13th reboot, Mark Swift and Damian Shannon have been hired on to pen the script. Producer of the Fast & Furious series, Neal H. Moritz will produce the film, along with Toby Jaffe.
Unlike previous sequels to the 1997 original, this new film will not be a straight-to-DVD release. Columbia Pictures are looking to relaunch the franchise in a new direction.
The Starship Troopers reboot will aim to follow Heinlein's novel more closely and will once again focus on the character Johnny Rico, as he joins Humanity's fight against the "Bugs".
None of the original cast are expected to return.
Here's hoping this reboot fairs better than the Robocop and Total Recall remakes.
