I like Dune it's one of my favourite movies. The problem with Dune is that.... because its so complex and had a huge fan base you could never please everyone. Critics rampaged on about it, then admitted that they hadn't even seen it and would never watch it because it was blasphemes. It seems a shame that even 'the life of Brian' can ruined by ghwad fearing folk just purely on the principal of that they 'think' the movie is about.

@Franz ... What I meant by the virtual incestual statement was David havin' it with a 'possible' family member ... Vickers? ... Adam & Eve? ... or some other family members (of the crew) we don't know the background of? ... anyhow I'm lobbing that out the window now lol ... But you lot crack me up ... I remember reading an article in which Ridley said there were possibly 2 Androids/Synthetics on board. One we know as David, the other would be Weyland. However, Weyland was not there under his real name, it was Stanley or something like that (He looks old and bald). I need to remember where I saw that and link it here.

I only saw a small portion of AVP and never seen a second from AVPR, so for me they truly dont exist. For me, the rest of the movies are good.

Alien, Pro focuses on one area of the universe that includes Earth where obviously something did not go as planned, although expectations to a plan may be want is ultimately desired. Standard operating procedure looks like sounding a warning beacon for others to avoid and for maybe a bigger boss to stop by and deal with the exception (another movie) created.

Maybe the goo doesn't need DNA to become active. Given it's use in Terraforming planets and creating new life, it might not need DNA to start it's cycle.

@CanadaPhil...cannot believe anyone remembers the Dragon's Domain episode from Space: 1999! I remember watching that at about 10 years old in the mid 70's at my grandparents house and waking up from nightmares of the beastie with the big eye. It was my first real terror in Sci-fi and was what hooked me forever. Considering that I still occasionally wake up from a nightmare of the alien (from the 79 Alien) chasing me or hiding from it...I'd have to say that the xeno has been a life-long lurker in the dark places in my head.

Here's a thought ... what if Weyland DID NOT go into CryoSleep? ... and the other crew members didn't know he was on board ... and David looked after him while traveling for the 2yrs? .....from Gem]n[ Absolutely logical and rational to me.

Dune was offered to Ridley and he was set to do it. He ended up taking time off to deal with personal matters though. Ridley's Dune would have been incredible, but oh well. There is also a 3+ hour fan edited cut of Dune that is actually pretty good. I believe it is called Dune Alternative Edition V.2 if anyone wants to look for the torrent.

Well the Alien movie played one Sunday night and I was on edge striaght away. Mid way through I realised the bad bits would happen later. Got scared by those scenes. Aliens did the same when the Marines land and open that door to the complex. The original Salems Lot scared me to death when you see the vamp near the prison cell!!!! In my childhood the hammer vampire movies scared me. I wanted to watch them but I was terrified of Dracula. I`d lie on the couch hiding away - wierd :) Developed a fear of old Drac, didnt bother with ghosts or monsters. Drac was my boogy man :D Now, dont laugh but seeing the T Rex in Jurrasic Park for the First time put me on edge - great work. Communion scared me and left me feeling ill as I watched it in the cinema. Couldnt sleep properly for weeks afterwards. I hated those Grey puppet things in the movie - they made me feel like a scared child.

Yes he did because critics hated it ... flopped @ box office ... Lynch dumped the film because of pressure from both producers and financiers ... they controlled his artistic control and denied him his proper cut of the movie ... therefore he used Alan Smithee as his name in the credits ... might of been ok if he was left alone ...

1) The only interesting bit was Bishop's alter ego Charles Bishop Weyland (the first time Weyland-Yutani axcquired a face, and a very unexpected one, but the character was totally wasted, an interesting idea rendered worse than useless. He deserved a better and more thoughtful movie. everything else, OBLITERATE. 2) No redeeming qualities whatsoever. OBLITERATE. NUKE IT TILL IT GLOWS. 3)pretty bad, but not as much worse than Alien 3 as we are led to believe. THe Ripley/Queen hybrid and the room with failed versions of the first seven ripley/queen clones are truly creepy (even if they somewhat resemble the cocoon scene, back then still cut from Alien. MAYBE...NAH, OBLITERATE. 4)At the very beginning the Alien egg materializes aboard ship in a demonstrably impossible way. OBLIT...but wait, is it not Alien 3 that created one of the coolest ideas of the whole series, that aliens receive a genetic imprint depending upon which species they use as host? Otherwise, it was such a fest of nihilistic cruelty without hope that it would be the first choice movie of many suicides. After Cameron's cheesy 'family hope' conclusion, this was meaner than a skilletful of Beelzebubs. But it was boring in the banality of its roughness, just as Cameron may have been overly cheery

Hello everyone, I joined because this site is really amazing, the way you guys talk about Prometheus and the discussions about what the movie could be about are just fantastic. I really enjoy reading everything posted. I can't wait to see the movie. :) I saw Alien when I was 7 (I snuck into the TV room while my parents had a dinner party!) and I was hooked and have wanted a Xeno as a pet ever since LOL! I Love the Aliens franchise, esp. the Androids/synthetics; Ash, Bishop and Call and can't wait to see what the newest addition, David, will be like. No surprise, I am a huge fan of Ridley Scott, HR Giger and "Blade Runner" as well. ~Svanya

Me thinks the crew land on something "alien" (sorry) to that of the original movie. The end of the new movie sees this world turn into turmoil. Several other worlds within the system fail under Jockey control leaving a stranded ship issuing a warning. What they ploughed from this system and tampered with was their undoing....well in that system anyway. You win some, you lose some :) Remind me never to terraform.

I wanted my space jockey to look like a being who fused its technology with its own body so that you can't tell what is organic and what is artificial. Mine is not really a suit, more like a cybernetically enhanced creature. I was following the design from Alien very closely.

I dont think we have to do that. Those who dont like can ignore them. The AVPs have not been taken serious and as Cannon so they do no harm. I think AVP could have rocked if done right and if it was set in same timeline as Aliens/Alien 3 (well a little latter). But what you have when you make a film that contains two of the most iconic Aliens in Film you really have set a high expectation. A movie based around the PC Games especially the 2nd one released in 2001 with Primal Hunt Expantion pack (first see Pred Alien) then it could have worked. Prometheus is going to have its work cut out aswell, because it can have a effect as being a let down or have a plot that may not go well with Alien/Aliens. Some thought the idea of Ripleys Pregnant DNA being cloned to make Resurection was a bit of a let down idea. Well Prometheus's potential think outside box plot could also be risky.

heres a little theroy to throw into the pot Weyland nearing death from old age , is infected by david, his pawn , with the goo in the hope it will extend his live and its him thats the blue guy ! Ridley wanted to project the computer images onto glass screens but couldn't due to the budget. I think a lot of what we're going to see in Prometheus is what he would have liked to do in Alien but couldn't..... take the shot of The Prometheus spinning into the planets axis in the trailer. That same shot was tried with The Nostromo and he couldn't achieve it properly. (computer tracking was still in its infancy.)

You give the Xenomoph a very elegant, and poised look, love it! It's rather sad that we've never seen them in any behaviors other than hunting, fighting, or attacking. I don't count ARes, it was just too messed up. A question for you, is your SJ just a suit, is that what you were rendering, or did you see it as a being?

Hey Zim I quickly sketched out your idea in 3d and can refine it if you want but I can't promise when I can give it more time. If I am on the right track let me know and when finished I will make you an Wavefront obj file that you can put in any 3d app you want and get whatever angle you want.
