Bingo. Science should be our greatest defence against superstition and ridiculous claims/theories. Science is first of all about critical thought, and then the search for evidence. Unfortunately there are many wannabe scientists and even more pseudoscientists that defy these basic principles, and then we move back.

I think the SJ's want us to find them & it is the engineers that are the villains. There is a purpose for the SJ's wanting us there, not a clue what it is. My expectations is that Ridley is going to show us something that seems plausible, if not exactly believable. It seems believable to me that if an extraterrestrial life form exists, if not looking exactly like a human being, would at least share some similar physical characteristics. For that reason, I feel Ridley's on track with the blue guy. Or if it did look different from us, we could still recognize something very balanced and sophisticated in its form. I believe that is a characteristic of an advanced life form. I don't believe an alien being with intelligence on a human level or higher would look like a freakin octopus, or how aliens are made to look in Cowboys and Aliens or in Super 8, etc, etc. That's just me...

well said Noxword, you can't control how other people think but you can agree to disagree and NOT argue about things you see differently... What I find MOST AMAZING is all the people who insult and belittle the work of Von Daniken and it could turn out that he knew better than all of them...Einstein, Darwin, ect etc etc...all of them....His incredible realizations were Born of having and maintaining an "OPEN MIND" !!!!!!

My take on it is that our civilisation has finally reached a level that is too advanced for the Space Jockey's liking. We have become too advanced, and after thousands of years are now a direct threat to their God-like status and their "#1 position" in the universe. The cave paintings were a litmus test for us - once our civilisation could intepret them and have the ability to visit, that was the 'trigger point' to put in place its eradication program for us. Our ability to terraform, to produce artificial life, to travel/navigate through space - as Weyland said "we are the Gods now" - and the SJ's don't like that one bit. So following Prometheus' arrival and nosing around, the SJ's make a bee-line for Earth with a bioweapon cache (virus, mutagens, xenomorphs etc) specifically tailored to wipe us out, whilst the SJ's clean up later and pick the carcass of what is left of our civilisation (biodiversity, natural resources, infrastructure etc.) Scott has hinted that he has a rough script/storyboard for Part II, so this film doesn't necessarily have to explain anything about the ship on LV-426. This is not an Alien prequel, it simply provides the setting for how the SJ's and their penchant for bioweaponry fits in.

Anything argued has to be done on its behalf to somehow prove it is right, the exact opposite of science. If you don't believe me, go argue with your local religious leader, challenging any of their beliefs, or go to Iran or some theocracy, let's see how it goes for you... Science on the other hand, relies on argument and challenges. It does it in an ordered manner, to make sure as humanly possible your conclusions are true; that is why it is not palatable, it requires effort, people have to actually think.

I agree, science was born and should be regarded as an ever changing flow of theories to be argued, open to discussion and confutation, in order for it to evolve (no pun intended). Great scientists are those who use reason, a proper scientific method and most importantly keep their minds open. Unfortunately, most of the time they don't and assume that theirs is the absolute truth, thus damaging science and how it is perceived. True science should be free from arrogance. "Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." Science should contrast bigotry and superstition with critical thought and an open mind, otherwise it's just another religion, but without the promise of an afterlife. In the end people choose the block of dogmas that makes them happier. And then we see technology wielding talibans trying to reintroduce inquisition, surpassed or ridiculous theories that defy facts to adhere to the different/limited view of somebody who lived centuries or thousands of years ago.

I do not think there is ANY argument about it...RELIGION celebrates man kinds differences and is a terrible terrible thing. The exact opposite of what this world needs, which is for everyone in it to start celebrating our similarities and NOT our differences. Furthermore I feel that saying "B.S. Ancient Alien Theories" completely KILLS any credibility any words that come after that sentence have at all...because the Ancient Alien Theory IMO is 100% Spot ON and explains Not Only MAN KINDS incredible fear and ignorance towards the unknown and unexplained but the very ARROGANCE with which you used the expression itself represents how I feel about the subject completely!
