Just a note, I know plenty of scientific minded, deeply religious people who would sign up in a heartbeat for a one way ticket to explore mars, meet aliens, or so on.

Yeah, HicksandHudson. I've had similar thoughts. Maybe it'll all become clear in the 2nd movie, if there is to be one.

If I could I'd post a pick my wife took of our spring break trip in the TN mountains... I'm holding what looks like a big Thor-like hammer made out of 2 connected sections of cut wood / log.
Burned into the handle, the inscription reads: "Hillbilly Woman Tamer".

You should have been worried when it became known Lindelof got this film. He can't seem to keep his hands off the old time-travel schtick and I don't want to see that here.

The reason the walls are not the same, as in Alien, is because the Xeno's are not created yet ... they secrete the walls with the Xeno goo ... don't they? ...
And I'm going with TWO ships ...
ReplyGuruMonkeyPrometheus ForumThe SJs ship - inconsistencies.Apr 4, 2012
Hi Necrofan. Yep. I agree. But it's still fun to speculate. That's the point of the forum, I guess. I just hope that RS hasn't sold out on the original Alien, just because the latter films were a bit flimsy. As long as he has some continuity, and doesn't try to deny the original Alien movie events 'happened', I'll be quite happy for the bulk of Prometheus to be a standalone.

I'm almost half way through, but had to stop to give you props. My favorite story so far is when they had their buddy fake arrested, stranded... and had to make oars for the boat to save him! Awesome fun! lol
I wish I could purchase this on dvd. That possible?

ReplyhicksandhudsonPrometheus ForumThe SJs ship - inconsistencies.Apr 4, 2012
could be two different ships, could be entirely different sections of the same ship. the derelict craching in the preview could be the midpoint of the movie, or something entirely non-related to the one we see in Alien.
One thing about the trailers i cant figure out, the derelict crashes on this far away planet in the movie that we assume is the same planet contact with space jockeys is made. How can this terrFormed planet with a visual atmosphere become the uninhabited rock LV 427 in "Alien" in a matter of 30 years? i think we are underestimating Ridleys attention to detail here. I dont think anything in Promethus will lead us to a direct tie in with Alien, as Ridley mentioned wanting to tell the story in 2 movies. I dont think we will see how the alien eggs get on the derelict in his movie.
If Prometheus is the final tie in to Alien, and there is only 1 derelict, then the company would know its exact location. That would mean they sure as heck wouldnt send 1 freighter the Nostromo with 6 unsuspecting individuals and a science android to follow up this discovery. I think a derelict actually will get off the planet in Prometheus somehow and is taken out via Kamikaze attack in space. it then crash lands on LV 427, with the company having a general idea where it is but no exacts. So Weyland sends out a bunch of expendable mining missions throughnthat part of the galaxy until a signal is picked up.

I thought they already established... it's not a prequel. Do you guys just not buy that? I don't think we necessarily have seen the ship from the 'Alien' movie yet. RS DID say he would address the original space jockey, though. We should all reserve our judgement until we see it in its intended format. Big screen, 3D. We don't really know anything more about the plot than what we have been shown. All else, who knows.

Did I see this right? 90 posts? Holy crap Snork, is that a personal best?
One point I'd like to make... It's a simple one and I'm not sure anyone's made it yet, ever.
We see a large round object at the waterfall.
We also see our beloved bone-ship (derelict) at some point, presumably later on.
We assume the waterfall scene is the dawn of modern man and that it kicks off the movie. If we take into account the 35,000 yrs. that have passed on earth since then, (and all of humanity's progress that has taken place in that time), we must also take into account that the alien race in the large round object has also evolved ( or perhaps de- evolved?)
Changes have taken place with us. We must assume the same is true of our "gods" yes?
They haven't simply been frozen in time... Perhaps their motives have changed since the invitation was left?
ReplySigismundoPrometheus ForumAt The Mountains ...Apr 4, 2012
A Prometheus success, especially if it is released PG-13, will most likely do nothing for del Toro's "Madness" project. He not only, (fortunately), will not budge on a R rating, but we also have to remember he is staying faithful to Lovecraft with no females in the cast and no love interests in the film - something Prometheus has.
The fact this project got shut down, even with James Cameron tacked on as EP and letting del Toro use his most up to date equipment, and Tom Cruise nearly confirmed as the lead, and the studio STILL said no - I don't think we will ever see the At the Mountains of Madness epic that del Toro could bring us.
ReplyNecrofanPrometheus ForumWeyland Corp the Alien…Apr 4, 2012
Well, you would certainly expect to see the same type of behavior among intelligent species on a different planet. No reason they would be any different, and perhaps far worse. Evolution=survival of the fittest. Any intelligent race that makes it past its own technological singularity can hope, at best, to be merged 'as one' with their own technology. I think that's what we are seeing on this planet, and with the derelict ship. The derelict, in a way, is alive itself. Using the Space Jockey only in the way a parasite would use a host, in order to navigate from world to world.

@HicksandHudson,
Yeah.. agree. This could almost be taken as a little mini movie possibly when you add in all the cinematics it will probably have since it will be telling another story we have never seen yet which is...
What the heck happend to the ship and LV426 AFTER the events of Cameron's Aliens.
Could be a very cool thing if Gearbox and Sega do it right.
ReplygoodkatPrometheus ForumAliens : Colonial Marines' Looks really good!!Apr 4, 2012
I really really dislike how linear it is. Press this button to push off alien, place turret exactly here, walk down this hallway and be sure to slide under this door because if you fail you are required to start over rather than just finding another route.
I'm sorry but I feel like these guys are trying to make a movie rather than a game. Give the players a full facility to navigate so they can create their own routes and weld their own doors. An Aliens game needs to be less like Battlefield 3 and more like a first person shooter version of Batman Arkham city.

On the Weyland website, you can see the advances on the 'Emotion' scale in successive 'David' models to increase more than any other scale. David could be the most "human" of them all when the cards are down. That would be a twist.

I have said the same thing many many times...it bugs me a heck of a lot as well as the uniforms of the crew but I have decided to write it off for now to poetic/artistic license and trust in Ridley that it will not matter to me in the end that much when I see the film.

No I dont think it takes place on the colony, but the SULACO & apparently at least one mission/level IN THE DERELICT. Not sure about other possible locations.
I did hear though that they have apparently created EVERY SINGLE deck and room within the SULACO, which should make for some pretty interesting gameplay... I would hope.

I'm sticking to the thought that this mission bankrupts Weyland into a hostile takeover/merger of some kind. It would make sense, seeing as how the mission apparently turns out to be an obvious disaster.

With all the accolades that Ridley is getting about his movies and being the greatest director ever, I have to agree with you. If this is indeed the the derelict from Alien, then it should be an exact copy of the ship in Alien. It would ruin the whole movie for me if they don't have that continuity between Prometheus and Alien.

One thing that stands out for me was it the Scott, Lindloff Interview Q&A from a recent link i watched. One guys asks at the end something like like "will there be any scenes like the Cheastburster one in Alien?" and Scott gives a big "oh Yes!" who knows... correct me if i'm wrong, only watched it once.
