@craigamore
Agreed. But for me, the "fear of" and the "what if's" are what make this site so fun. I love reading about everybody's ideas and theories to see what conclusions so many different minds come to. And the simplicity of the xeno coming about from a mutated human, is down right creepy. To look back on the other films and think- "we did this to ourselves!" Is scary man. But part of me agrees---shut up and wait for the movie!! Lol

I will be the first to admit that I don't have a clue. It's just fun reading what others are speculating.

Calling Giger a weirdo is a bit of a stretch, seeing as how without his original art as inspiration, there would be no Xenomorph influence at all in the Alien films.
ReplycraigamorePrometheus ForumJames Cameron Wants to Direct Apr 1, 2012
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........NO MORE Cameron....'ALIEN' better than 'ALIENS'..........Cameron not allowed to touch anything 'Prometheus'.............NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyZetaReticuliPrometheus ForumWere being ManipulatedApr 1, 2012
The series grow so much into kiddie-marine-fanboy territory that
Giger's original phallic adult art was completely buried for 33 years.
No-one saw beyond the attack-with-pulse rifle and decimate plots which
smothered everything. Now if Aliens had a bit of the 'Heavy Metal' mags
content and Cameron had kept the erotic and symbolic themes, it would've
been a FANTASTIC sequel and not just a good sequel.

I saw Alien when I was pretty young...can't remember the exact age. It always fascinated me rather then scared me. I love their design and how they look, never had a nightmare with them..

I'm amazed at just how easily we can all say what will or will not be from a handful trialers adding up to no more than 7 minutes or so and then determine its probable value as quality storytelling or not, qaulity 1st rate directing or not, unique or not, original or not..........I'm read to say that none of us knows didley Jack spit and it's time we accepted, in spite of the fun of speculation, that even if this film is some of the things we fear it will be, we know NOTHING about what the final product will be and it;s time to swallow our keyboard infused pride and give 'Prometheus' the chance be whatever it is...
I;m as guilty as the next fan, but let's just agree to give a rest already.......and I'm not saying stop speculating, just this idea that we know what we're talking about with a movie we've 7 disparate, re-edited, vague minutes of....
There, there's my rant...I hope I wasn't too harsh on us.......but it had to be said.

See, that's why I'm not a good sci-fi person. I would not have thought about the SJ becoming part of the ship and driving it with his/her mind. That's why I rely on you folks to do my thinking ;)

But yeah... These "whatever" are thousands of milenia beyond us.. maybe millions??? I think they have advance to the point that they dont have to literally stop, park and get out with a suitcase full of samples.
If anyone takes a look at the Holo-Map pic, the suggestion is that that Engineers have mapped and done who knows what with 1,000's of worlds. There are literally billions of stars in the Universe.
ReplyZedwardsonPrometheus ForumDiscrepancy in the level of techApr 1, 2012
as for the tech, you can see that if you remember that in Alien, the ship is basically a long range tug and barge, while in this movie, its a top of the line science outfit. you would see such tech gaps in real life. That, and you get the sense that it wasn't the first rodeo for the Nostromo.

I'm going to put a giant penis chair in the bed of my f250 and have my wife dress up like a robot and drive it while I inseminate the town I live in!! HAHA---(all jokes aside, I totally agree with the penis/vagina theory about the universe-they probably do that with the penis gun so they do not have to land on the Planets-sort of a drive-by -?)
ReplyProm_queenAlien Movies Forumold computers in AlienApr 1, 2012
That's bothered me, too, especially in light of the technology in Prometheus which supposedly happened before Alien. Obviously, Alien was high-tech in the 70s, but today for it to make sense as the future we have to come up with explanations as to why Nostromo is so outdated. Your explanations are as sound as any! I'll buy that.

"Whether these Aliens bleed acid or not is still unknown, aswell as the "second jaw" characteristic which was so unqiue to the original "Alien's". Not much is known regarding bodily features, but we do have a small grasp on what to expect in terms of behavior. These Aliens are said to act differently, more perverse and a strong sexual infleuence is hinted in recent sourced news articles regarding the film's progress."
Quoted from the Alien info on this site:
Most likely does have something to do with this, just not sure what's going to happen exactly.
ReplyCanadaPhilPrometheus ForumWere being ManipulatedApr 1, 2012
Thanks.
I have to believe that there is way more than meets the eye to this. There is no way in hell that R.S would give away the entire premise of a blockbuster movie in a 2 minute trailer spot.
I mean, if thats the case, and its as utterly simple as some people are describing with a big blue guy in suit... Oh, and the SAME ship from 1979, than that is just completely lame to be blunt.
Any second rate director/screen writer could come up with lazy themes like that.
I have to believe, like you said that is going to something very provocative... a completely mind bending experience.

Maybe all their toys are out is because nothing or nobody ever travels to this planet, their home planet. We lock our doors from intruders, thieves and the such. But if there was no such thing or we were on earth by ourselves, just your own extended family-on the whole earth, and some ants landed here and came walking through one of you or your families houses, you probably wouldn't be too concerned. (until the ants started stealing your genetic Play-Doh!) LOL
Replythe comingPrometheus Forumwhat If?Apr 1, 2012
the idea of the space jockey being our creators doesn't sit well with me...it is a redundant idea...you cannot explain origins by introducing an even more complex being to the theory (the whole atheist/god argument)
the human race came from early sea life...they came from sulphur springs...the planet from stellar dust...dust from hydrogen and helium....from quarks...from strings...
ReplyCanadaPhilPrometheus ForumDiscrepancy in the level of techApr 1, 2012
I have to think that I am going to give Ridley Scott more credit than that.
Many people dont even realize that Alien was only his second major film. It literally put him on the map, and people have been questioning him on the "origins" of the story for more than 3 decades now.
The guy is into his seventies now and has been at this probably longer than 85 or 90% or the people commenting here have literally been alive.
Im thinking he sees this project as part of his legacy, and he is REALLY going to try to do the story justice.
Sure it may look splashy as you described, but that is the nature of the beast today. Audiences are accustomed to way out visuals now, and basically demand it for wanting to pony up the hard cash and time it takes to go out a see a movie.
But the fact is, sure its going to LOOK GREAT, but I think the STORY is going to be very provocative.

CanadaPhil,
"So further to my topic on the DNA idea, what if the ENTIRE universe is like a GIANT LIVING THING, and the "tele-gun" firing through the you know what slits is akin to the the act of procreation.
I think everyone was always taking the idea that the "slite" were entering into the vessel, but what if its really meant to be the OTHER way around... that the penis-gun is inseminating its by-design genetic material out INTO the universe which is in effect like a GIANT WOMB??"
I have been thinking this sort of thing at the very back of my mind since the
'R' rating thing has beeen raging - it's not about blood and guts but very PROVOCATIVE
symbolism suggestive of the very fundamentals of procreation as you say in all living
things - a penis and a vagina and multiverses as wombs etc - VERY radical!
Seriously, you could be onto something.

That's the point, Prometheus moves away from the Sci-cult movie area to the plain blockbuster kingdom. Some sequences in the the trailer make my think in that way (hopefully I'm wrong).
ReplyTKfanboy421Prometheus ForumWere being ManipulatedApr 1, 2012
Sounds legit @CanadaPhil, my belief-sticking to the whole bio-mechanical/living tissue idea, as we see in the trailer that the S/J suit kind of materializes around the pilot when he is in the penis chair (cockpit) and would become a fixture into the ship, organically. He would be able to fly the ship with his brainwaves and know if there was an issue with the ship somewhere because in theory, he would be part of the ship-(keeping with the original parasitic origins of alien)
I posted in another thread about the S/J helmet being skull and organic flesh that encases the pilot like the aliens in ID4, therefore being a bio-organic spacesuit cable of protecting the pilot from all environments alien to his own. (ideas on my opinion)
ReplyFamishedPrometheus ForumDiscrepancy in the level of techApr 1, 2012
Compare something like Alien (1979) to something like Forbidden Planet (1956) and you pretty much have your answer--although some of that set design was the epitome of '50s retro cool. As science fiction goes, you have to take what you have learned and how far we have come into consideration, otherwise your story/film would become a campy retro future depiction. Going even further, you also have things like nano, genetic, quantum research to contend with--it's one of the main reasons why any sort of direct "prequel" to a thirty year old film is asking the creators to handcuff their creativity.
You just have to allow the update and use your imagination for how that tech may or may not have been incorporated into your own ideas for the ALIEN film.
Regardless, with something as sophisticated as Ash as part of the '79 film, is there really any doubt that the tech you see in Prometheus wasn't available?

Well done @CanadaPhil, I am TOTALLY onboard with that. Maybe the multiple "strains" have to be separated, different ships/temples, as in different labs working with different species and specimens collected from around the universe--and need to be kept separated and not cross-contaminated.
Quite possibly, the alien ship we see that takes off and gets crashed by the Prometheus, in fact crashes, and another ship that is further along in the development of the xeno (carries the eggs), takes off headed for earth and a mutated David is onboard that ship and veers it to a barren Planetoid (lv-426) to foil the trip to earth. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!
