I like this theory as well. It jives with the war of the Titans and Gods, the Titanomachy.
I think the blue meanies could be an earlier line of hominid that get their advanced genetic splicing technology from another race representing the titans. They also get a means to leave the earth/take refuge on the mountain tops for awhile becoming god-kings after their kingdom is destroyed. I've got a crazy theory about them originally being from Earth and becoming the Olympian gods for the purposes of this movie. The legends of Atlantis in the Greek and Egyptian myths speak about how they destroyed themselves and disappeared. However some characters who spent time with the Atlanteans show up on Olympus and in later myths in the chronology. It's important to note that even if you go with the idea that the Atlanteans founded Egypt, there are stories relaying them to be pilots of flying craft, and highly advanced bipeds who created mermaids. Is it possible some of the other cultures were mistaken about who their gods, like the Annunaki, really were? Cross-cultural analysis brings up too many similarities, and in many of these early civilizations there are multiple classes of deities. These stone temple pilots, as well as Thoth the last Atlantean, mingled with other Egyptian Gods and God-kings.
Plato tells us Atlantis fell around 9500 BC.
In my theory many myths turn out to be true, just not in the way Weyland anticipated. The survivors from the Atlantean race of humanoids left these markings behind when they left earth to indicate where they got their advanced technology from. They become mountain dwellers and God-kings of Egypt/Sumer after the earth is altered by catastrophe after catastrophe, and the biblical flood destroys almost all traces of their existence (the infection and cleansing flood was a punishment caused by the Elder race of Gods/Titans). They leave traces behind on some of the islands they move to at the edge of their sinking island empire, moving to the isle of Skye and Honolulu. Some indications in the myths place them as living on an Atlantic landmass far to the west... Which may give you a clue to the many Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Atlantean influences on America, like city names, Atlanta, the goddess Columbia, and Egyptian-stlye obelisks as well as Greco-roman architecture.
When Albion, Poseidon's son and a relative of Prometheus, brings Atlantis into conflict with the Titans it becomes a prelude to the sinking of Atlantis and the war of the Gods and the Titans.
The gods and Atlanteans strip the Titans of their power, but Atlantis is destroyed far before they ever get involved. Then, Poseidon just sorta shows up every once in a while, and creates the Roman people according to myth; since the Atlantean kingdom was now destroyed.

The Derelict is actually modeled on the idea of a FEMALE form. Look up Giger's art print "hieroglyphics".
Also, for those REALLY paying attention, the original 79 Derelict is NOT the same ship depicted in Prometheus.. Whether that is just down to artisitic changes from the art director?? who knows.
ReplyJason8Prometheus ForumWho's face is it?Apr 2, 2012
Man was created in the image of his god so the face is that of the creator.

I just keep invisioning this comedic scene begining when Holloway yell's out "FLAMETHROWER FIGHT!!!" Then after one of them is seriously injured they realise their mistake and attempt to vaporise him in order to hide the evidence.

The impact could very well be like Jaws. For me, since the original Alien I absolutely refuse to go space!
But CSJTR! I'm going to see Titans 3D just to see the Prometheus trailer.
ReplyAshmodeanPrometheus ForumReckon i have the answerApr 2, 2012
I like this idea but I think the ship itself is a trap. Like a severely twisted cockroach hotel. In Giger's original designs the ship actually produced the eggs and the giant openings were for curious lifeforms to wonder into just like the crew of the Nostromo. I'm not sure how much of that will cross over though.
ReplyAshmodeanPrometheus ForumPLEASE!!! NO MORE ICE CUBE TRAYS!!!Apr 2, 2012
A pressure cooker still existing in the future may not be that strange. If it works, it works. I allways liked how on the rebooted Battlestar series they still had modern style phone handsets and pencils on the ships. And if you spent a ton of money shipping a bunch of marines across the galaxy your going to spend any more than you have to on their shoes?

Has anyone suggested that when they were first on Earth scribbling with crayons, they took (abducted?) some humans and took them with them? ... was it a ransom note they left on the walls? ...lol ...
ok ... but the abduction bit seems valid ... why wouldn't they?

@Mark ...
I'm diggin most of that ... but what a legacy left behind ... for US? :) ...
And as said before, Ridley quoted, this first prequel will be all about the Space Jockey ... the second prequel will be about their home planet ...
So it's good we're gonna be treated with some sort of answer ... i don't want the full info just enough to keep me going ... hence from your theory above could mean that the SJ's get a kicking and so we find how repressed they really are? ...

Remember that scene in one of the trailers where Shaw says "It's changing..." and they show part of the wall of the derelict ship morphing or something? I think this scene is actaully post-collision and the ship is repairing/healing itself.

ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumMistakes made in deciphering those markings on Earth. . .Apr 2, 2012
@Starbeast - Very correct there, surely it would have to be both. How could an invitation be etched if no way of finding their location is written aswell. . .
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumWho's face is it?Apr 2, 2012
We humans manufactured a God to worship. Perhaps these aliens manufactured humans to worship. We are merely the idols of the space jockey religion?

ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumMistakes made in deciphering those markings on Earth. . .Apr 2, 2012
Yeah I mean, what, these advanced aliens ran out of paper so they had to start etching on rock surfaces? One of the early plot 'leaks' said they found something in Africa. I much prefer that a single artefact was found in a single location (much like Stargate) rather than identical cave paintings around the world. Damn you Lindelhof.
In any case, I think it's both a map and invitation because if it's showing directions to get there then it is implicitly extending an invitation.

Good idea about SJ's leaving behind something, such as the DNA sequencing for the Xenomorph race. Which pretty much are unstoppable. . .
ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumMistakes made in deciphering those markings on Earth. . .Apr 2, 2012
True. As it'd make sense, for the creators to want their creations to search them out eventually. . . But surely just cause the Prometheus crew messed them around (potentially), why would the SJ's then wanna fly to Earth and wipe all life out?? Surely a race as intelligent as them would know not to take the actions of a few, against the many. . .

It could be a map just to see how smart humans evolve to reach the creators. Else why would they even be there? Something went wrong when we reached there ... maybe we unleashed our devilish selves & robbed something from them ...

Hmm. . . What do you think it is?? I still think it looks more like a map, even though it's said not to be in the clip. It looks like a similar type etching as in the original Stargate film, when co-ordinates were carved as star constellations. . .
ReplySaladbowlAlien Movies ForumLets watch Alien 3Apr 2, 2012
First up, I am not one of the people who is super esoteric about the franchise.
Alien is undoubtedly my favorite because of the great atmosphere, tense scenario and special effects that still amaze me when I watch it today (and that feel superior to the other parts for some reason).
Aliens - I liked the relationship side of it, but not much more. To me, the whole action scenario with hordes of Aliens and guns and all-American soldiers and the whole 80es vibe to it - it just doesnt work for me, because it lacks all that I loved about the first one.
Now, Alien 3 - and this is where I have an advantage, because I dont really care for an airtight storyline - brings back the claustrophobic feeling, weird, uncomfortable characters and through Fincher's great style and attention to detail the overall vibe I see fit for this Alien universe. The butchered version definitly was a mistake, but the 2h special edition version is great to me. The whole middle part when the alien is captured and released features great tense, weird, "NO DONT DO IT!" moments that contribute a lot.
Alien 3 is my 2nd favorite next to Alien. For me, Aliens is okay if you dont like to be scared but prefer non-stop action, but not much more than that...
(Alien 4 just doesnt work for me at all. Everything is too mainstreamy and the cast just does not work AT ALL.. Some great scene, e.g. all the Ripley clones gone wrong in the lab, or the underwhater stuff. The design of the Alien Baby thingy in the end just sucks so bad that I cant even watch that stuff - what were they thinking..? Guess thats what you end up with when you piss off Giger...)
So in the spirit of this thread I can only say - go watch A3 Special Edition Director's cut (hope that is correct..) and tell me thats not a tense, scary movie...

It can´t be an invitation!
The symbols are made from humans. Old cavepaintings.
If the spacejockeys would leave something for the humans to understand they would have made it far more advanced than that.
It´s not an "invitation"
ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumMistakes made in deciphering those markings on Earth. . .Apr 2, 2012
@Clovenberg - That's kinda along the lines of what I was thinking too! About the SJ's potentially being "good", well not evil anyways. But yeah, I just can't wait to see how it plays out. . . Never been so stoked for a film in my life!
ReplyCBT1979Prometheus ForumIt is not a telescope it is...Apr 2, 2012
It's a cannon which shoots eggs to implant life on a distant planet.
So basically you can consider it as a penis as it also contributes
creation of life.
Though the species being sent to that planet might have destructive
powers and means ^^
ReplyclovenbergPrometheus ForumMistakes made in deciphering those markings on Earth. . .Apr 2, 2012
For me the starmap they find in the cave is indeed a map to the creators. Maybe it is a safety thing created by the spacejockeys. When the humans are capable of the technology to fly to another galaxy etc it´s time to erase the humans so they don´t become to powerful. Or something like that.
A safety system.
On the otherhand I also believe they are good, but when humans steal the DNA codes from the spacejockey to create all life he or they decide to erase the humans.

Edit: Predators SPOILER ALERT!
I thought PredatorS was the worst of the lot. The god-awful homages to Predator aside, the film completely trashed the material. Splitting the species into two was stupid and the new species just looked stupid - and yet another dumb-ass human/alien alliance. P-lease! And what the hell was the point of the Larry Fishburne character, and now that I mention it, what the hell was Danny Trejo doing in that film. Oh oh and a barefoot yakuza dude draws with a fully laden predator??? Give me a gun. Predator 2 is Golddust compared to that pile of smouldering crap.
Just erase Alien Resurrection, rewrite and reshoot Alien 3, and arrest the writers and directors of AvP:R for crimes against cinema.
AvP 1 was almost OK. As mentioned, I hate human/alien alliances and the trailer had the best scenes of the film but I really bought the Charles Bishop Weyland character.

What I mean is - If the SJ's are indeed pure evil etc, then why leave invitations on walls etched in prehistory?? Surely just go to Earth and do their evil deeds. . .
That's why I don't think the SJ's are so bad to start off with, I believe the Prometheus unwillingly perhaps, upset them big time i.e fiddling with their creation goo??
