Ridley Scott IS alien ... the story was good but with an average director it could be another forgettable movie ( just like almost all others O'bannon scripts ..for example totall recall now is almost unwatchable ).
Was Ridley Scott to find Giger , to find the actorts , to give all the style to the movie ...the script alone was no more than 30% of the movie .

If the blue guy in fact IS a spacejockey this would be the first great disappointment to me. This is the "civilisation obviously not comprehendible by us" (Ridley Scott in Alien-DVD audio commentary)?? A guy in a blue rubber suit?? If he was an altered crewmember: OK, that would explain the human shape, I could live with that. But revealing after 33 years that a spacejockey is nothing but a blue guy with some xeno-characteristics on his skin - that's cheap and not worth the waiting.
I don't like the idea that the thing in the chair is just a suit either. I always thought that that "thing" WAS the actual spacejockey and I always wanted to see more of him. What I didn't wanna see is that the spacejockey opens up like a closet and a member of the blue-man-group jumps out.

this thread has gotten so derailed its approaching mel gibson levels.
but i DID see what u mean but the pictures i have seen of the smashed helmet victim werent all that clear on my end so i couldnt see his face, or a smashed one inside.
i remember someone posting a pic saying it looked like a xenomorph or mutated head but others pointed out it was a smashed helmet.
i dunno how clear of a pic someone can get from the new trailer, sigh.
at least we will get a great look at it in the theater!

ShinobiX9X@
The Alphans land on the planet Arkadia, where hieroglyphics suggest that it is the cradle of civilization from which life on Earth began. Now it is desolate and cheerless and Koenig feels that it is unsuitable for colonization. Two renegade crew members have other ideas, however, and take Helena hostage in their demands to settle on Arkadia.

Yeah that was a theory i had thought of ... trouble is, it would then make Weyland 2yrs older than he is (close to the 95yrs WI predicts?) ... we don't know how frail he was on the start of the mission though do we? ...

yes but i think they can go into a stasis/hibernation as well. seems like they stay inactive in the hive walls until prey comes by. at least thats how it looked in aliens, if they werent hibernating i dont see why all of those aliens should have still been alive by the time the sulaco crew came, they should have all died and been lying all curled up like roaches. (like all the dead face huggers)
ticks do the same thing, they can stay dormant for years until something warm comes close and they spring back to life and try to grab a hold of the unsuspecting prey.
ReplyKane77Prometheus ForumLovecraft and PrometheusApr 3, 2012
I yesterday watched his great film The Call of Cthulhu , 2005, by Andrew Leman.
Its only about 40 minutes long and designed in an early expressionism-style, really great..
http://vimeo.com/9405378
The Call of Cthulhu is HP Lovecraft's most famous story. It is the only story to feature the celebrated monster Cthulhu and in many ways it encapsulates the ideas that went on to permeated Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. The film follows the story's three-part narrative construction, and it moves from the 1920s to 1908 to the1870s and back, as the story does. The story embodies HPL's nihilistic world view, his cosmic perspective, and his sense that mankind is doomed by its own insignificance.
In the story, a dying professor leaves his great-nephew a collection of documents pertaining to the Cthulhu Cult. The nephew begins to learn why the study of the cult so fascinated his grandfather. Bit-by-bit he begins piecing together the dread implications of his grandfather's inquiries, and soon he takes on investigating the Cthulhu cult as a crusade of his own. As he pieces together the dreadful and disturbing reality of the situation, his own sanity begins to crumble. In the end, he passes the torch to his psychiatrist, who in turn hears Cthulhu's call.

I think you guys might be missing the point (unless I am).
Ripley Clone 8 hit the nail on the head - the company (well, Burke) maybe couldn't be exactly sure what was on LV-426, but knew enough to know they wanted to know more. Hence the colonists were dispatched, essentially as lab rats, and basically the company waited to see if something would happen.
---------------
Ripley: You sent them to that ship.
Burke: You're wrong.
Ripley: I just checked the colony log. Dated 0-6-1-2-7-9, signed Burke, Carter J. You sent them out there and you didn't even warn them. Why didn't you warn them, Burke?
Burke: Okay, look. What if that ship didn't even exist, huh? Did you ever think about that? I didn't know! So now, if I went in and made a major security issue out of it, everybody steps in. Administration steps in, and there are no exclusive rights for anybody
---------------
The answer to the question of why colonists were sent out there instead of some more heavy duty hombres, I guess is covered by the sentence "Administration steps in, and there are no exclusive rights for anybody". Cameron nicely ties the whole misadventure down to greed.
Case closed.

LOL that would be a poorly made costume indeed! actually if you check out the movie basket case u get to see plenty of me :)
in the movie you can see the seams left from the mold on "belial" that werent even attempted to be smoothed out or trimmed down. reminds me of those lines left down the sides of the arms and legs of cheep old barbie dolls.
let alone some great stop motion scenes that make belial look like a messed up melted gumby show character.
