No offense intended... but some of the new guys should read the old threads from november/december last year, preferably the ones with many comments, you have missed out on so many things us "longtermers" have discussed to death. they should also bring you up to speed with us "longtermers" too LOL.

I think betterduck is on to something with the head examination theory. Perhaps I am not looking closely enough at the Weyland timeline. Maybe other clues are there.

@ Snorky...Could be...I just think the black stuff running all the way up the right side of his body and arm are too revealing. I am trying to keep it simple and follow a logical progression...maybe I am wrong and that's not the same goo but I doubt it. Think the little pre-amble makes it clear he dies, and I think in that image he is determining what is wrong with himself, if you examine it closely enough. Just My humble opinion, I agree to disagree. I love ya bro, just saying, I'm sticking with my theory.

Yeah.. I really dont think there are going to be ANY Xeno's as we think of them from 79.. but the we will see the DNA as I think Ridley said... by that I think he means a process of what we are sort of familiar with...
- An initial face capture/implantation/gestation in LIVING host*
- A "birth" via violent escape resulting in death of host.
- That serpent like offspring growing VERY rapidly into what its intended lifeform is.
* I put an asterisk on that for a Reason. You need a FULLY LIVING HOST for this process. DAVID cannot act as a host in the true sense... Nor do I think DAVID can fully morph into a BLUE MEANIE as some are saying.... I think thats nonsense.
However, I think DAVID will play a pivotal role in messing with the bioformer that results in Shaw getting "infected" so to speak.

@ Betterducks - Titans and Gods, a def possibility, falters out a little towards the end IMO but it fits with the races idea, I think the liver element has an analogy also.
@ canadaphil - def don't think we gonna see a proto-xeno in this, Ridley wants something new, something fresh, but that tentacle/tail that hits the door seems the same color as the blue guy!

ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumWhy Shaw must be religiousApr 4, 2012
I think you've got some of the reasons why Shaw has religious overtones.
However, her play with religion can be interesting, and a thought provoking artifact that can blossom into terror. If used correctly, religion can add layers of depth to the character/story.
The way I see it, Shaw was brought up via religion. Maybe deeply inspired by it. So what does she do? Studies archeology. She develops scientific maturity and understanding, and loses a great deal of her religious overtones in her educational endeavors. Nevertheless because she was brought up deeply rooted in religion, she still has adherence to some of the ideas deeply in her psyche. For instance, she may lose the idea of a Christian deity, but she believes in some sort of creator nonetheless. In Prometheus, she makes a grave mistake not in believing in a creator but, because of her religious upbringing, believes the creator will be peaceful.
Where ever Prometheus goes, if the Space Jockey is indeed the creators, every aspect of religion and misguided understanding of science(like aliens being peaceful) will be destroyed. From my point of view, Shaw throughout this film is leaving in hell because all of her hopes will be shattered.
As far as not being shocked by the idea of ancient aliens... well I wouldn't say that yet. They're are very thought provoking ways of making ancient aliens that seeded our existence into shocking story/cinema.
One factor that I initially think about is what if humans find out in early human history that they were just cattle created by the Space Jockey for the xenos. Nothing more. Something happens and we gain independence. It's realized by humans that the Space Jockey is far more advanced. Eventually because of our intelligence and ability of discovering technology, the Space Jockey will find us again. However we realize history has a way of being forgotten and repeats itself again. So what do humans do? We create religion because it will keep scientific achievement at bay. It restrains us from asking deeper questions that may keep great perils of ever finding us.

@ odmanout - in the new trailer an umbilical cord can be seen extending from Shaws belly to the "thing" held in the clamps, and the swelling belly can be seen in the leaked trailer (if you can still find it).
ReplyBetterDuckJMGPrometheus ForumPrometheus Revealed?Apr 4, 2012
I am in the camp of two races as well. If the film is based on Greek mythology as it is said to be, than two God types seems feasible. The Titans (the originals) and the Olympians (the newbies) have it out, with the Olympians seizing power. I think the Prometheus crew stumble upon the aftermath of their war when they go exploring. They find corpses of what I believe to the be SJ's, and also a head. We see the head being examined. One of Weyland's patents is the ability to reactivate brain function, postmortem. I think they use this on the SJ head, and then discovered what happened. They proceed to stick there nose in deeper, and perhaps release the SJ DNA (much like Hercules releasing Prometheus from the rock) that was contained or trapped by the Blues. But here's the kicker. Maybe the SJ's aren't benevolent. Maybe them being trapped was a good thing. Maybe the Blue guys winning was a good thing. Maybe, this is where the line "We were wrong, we were so wrong..." comes from. The Prometheus crew feels like there doing the right thing, the moral thing by trying to help this trapped being, but they were wrong, so wrong. And I do think the Blues are pissed that we interfered and want to teach us a lesson. And then Hell really breaks loose.
ReplyCanadaPhilPrometheus ForumPrometheus Revealed?Apr 4, 2012
The squidbilly is like a proto facehugger.
We haven't seen it, but I think it is reasonable to assume that THAT "facesquidbilly" is then going to attach itself to another crewmembers face... Not sure which one.
A Chestburst of that crewmember is then going to result in the "gray EEL".. (Dont all chestbursts from the Alien stories we now initially result in a slimy eel/or serpent like thing with teeth?)
However, what THAT "gray EEL" will quickly grow into is another thing... Could it be a new BLUE GUY, but a new BLUE GUY who is a little shorter in stature to what we think it should really be... because it gestated in a man???

@ Sparky - no offence was intended, in the "king" scene in the trailer the atmosphere, the ambience seems to be one of wonder not of death, we have only seen this guy for a couple of seconds, which suggests importance to me, but he also looks primitive... my guess is the UFO did something to him that changed him beneficially in some way, but why?

yes, but these little touches can make all the difference in a film. It's a good sign I think.

ReplyOttoPrometheus ForumChoral score recordingApr 4, 2012
Clearly this would just be some minor overdubbing, as the "score" has been written and is in the can. This might even be just some choral overdubs for some dramatic parts of the movie...
ReplyMark CawleyPrometheus ForumWhy Shaw must be religiousApr 4, 2012
Isnt it strange that theres no mention of religions in ANY of the other Alien movies?
Perhaps they kill God in Prometheus and thats the link for the Alien universe.

not new, looks like the international trailer to me.
ReplyMark CawleyPrometheus ForumPrometheus Revealed?Apr 4, 2012
I talked about 2 races days ago lol.
Plus.....we cant really tell if that pic IS a pile of dead Space Jockeys.......referring to the creature from the original Alien.....which i think forget it we aint gonna see one cos Ridley sold us out with blue stupid men wearing an elephant suit.
I know the scene where you think Shaw gets either inserted (oops sounds porn like) or gives birth to the squid thing.
I can say that in the Prometheus Trailer 2 HD that we see somebodys knees in a glass pod with a grapple kind of instrument go zooming down to the feet end.....knees raised up as if it is indeed a birth scene......next cut is torwards head end where it reveals shaws face with dangly tentacles in front of her face......then next cut is the pod opening with a definite organism in the grapple.
I should point out that there is also a scene of Shaw waking up on a table then attacking a scientist in a bio hazard suit with a blunt object.

Total Film sat down with Sir Ridley Scott recently to talk about his long-awaited return to the Alien universe, Prometheus.
And while we’re incredibly keen to see just how much Prometheus ties into the Alien mythology, there’s another aspect to the film that’s making us more excited than a face-hugger who’s just bought a first-class ticket to Easter Island – it marks Scott’s first tangle with 3D.
So we decided to ask Sir Ridley how he found the 3D process, and what we can expect from Prometheus’ 3D sequences…
How was it working in 3D?
I'm kind of naturally visual anyway, that's where I come from. And you're working off superb 3D screens, which are on the floor, and are really big. It was just wonderful.
I was shooting on 3D, then seeing it on the floor. It was easy, I must say.
Do you push it in a way we haven't seen before?
Well, I mean, yeah. You only want to push it so far, before it becomes arrows popping out of the screen and stabbing you in the eye. You use it for visual effect.
Is it more immersive, giving depth?
Yes, yes. And you can do that afterwards, by the way. I'm actually decided right now how deep to make it on certain sequences.
So you can literally, as it were, twiddle a knob, and the depth will increase. It's kind of bizarre, but there it is. Technologically it's absolutely staggering.
I was working with MPC in London, looking after almost 1,300 big FX shots, and every night they would pipe through shots to a big screen in my office in Lexington Street; I would sit there watching a sequence that had just been graded or refined in perfect 3D. Really amazing.
Prometheus is out 1 June and we can’t bloody wait to see it.
Will you pay to see Prometheus in 3D? It's visual genius Ridley Scott's first foray, surely it's worth it?

@ Sparky - your reaching now, the "king" looks primitive, and whats infecting him doesn't seem to be hurting him. But I do believe this guy is important, but look at the features on his head (top left of frame).
@ canadaphil - female form in lifecycle mural for Alien = Derelict. Yep, too obvious I think we can agree, but go on... I suspect the Aliens are old, remember the Mural how can it depict a creature not yet in existence, but is it a "don not enter" sign or a "hail the Xenomorph" icon?
