I think Mr. Capenter was paying tribute to Mr. Lovecraft but it really had nothing to do with At The Mountains of Madness. I have to agree wholeheartedly with you regarding that most desolate film.

In the trailer we can see that the 'blueman' is undergoing some physycal changes. His skin tone is pale (not really blue) and resembles David's but without the hair. At the end of the trailer David says "Big things have small beginnings". Maybe embedded in his programming there's some kind of prime directive similar to the one Ash had in the original Alien film and he infects himself with a strand of Alien DNA as a means of carrying a sample within himself back to earth

@ UK Alien/Biehn_Bandit - I get your point of minutes of trailers versus hours of film. It is just speculation, and I do believe something important is being withheld, but I also suspect we collectively might be able to crack the code so to speak. but the idea of time travel and two derelicts will confuse the average viewer I have just watched Fringe (season 4, episode 16) and it made me think... there was a line along the lines of "God's children inherit God's kingdom and become God's themselves", mix this with "The King has his reign and then he dies"... The God's warn us away from the Titans, whom in the time between the warning and us showing up have themselves become the God's, but not very nice Gods whom once aware we are the children of the former God's seek to eliminate us with the inheritance they have stolen and tainted, that was originally intended for us.

To me the blue man (Engineer?) seems infected with the same source from the alien craft or technology pumping through one of the male struggling crew members sending tentrils through his veins as it is infecting him.Maybe he was contaminated during his course of duties on the ship and left on the planet in isolation as not to cause harm to his crew. Or maybe he's testing the biological stuff on himself, a renegade crew member. Or he may simply be dying and watching the effects, thus the need for new bodies (us) to carry on with his races DNA.

If you don't already know, John Carpenter took a swing at this with, "In the Mouth of Madness", 1995. It might be of interest, while you're waiting. I have to say, it is one desolate film. I saw it once. For my trouble, I recall experiencing sudden waves of anxious depression, out of nowhere, for months afterward.

About David & Ash ... what if David f*cked 'this' mission up because he was 'too' 'emotional' (as in useless)? ... and so they tweaked the later versions of Androids and created the 'Ash' model to be a bit 'harder' to get the job done? ... he ended up being 'too hard' (as in a nutter) and so the Bishop model was created ... a middle balance of the two? ... Trivia Question for You: Was there an ASH in the Weyland family ... just asking because David was named after the fact that Weyland would've called his human son David ... and Bishop is named after Charles Bishop Weyland ... so what about Ash? ... never entered my mind until this movie discussion ...

I'm wondering if that might be his bio armor kind of disappearing so that he can get a good look at what the planet looks like being terraformed with his own eyes and feel....just my opinion.

Biehn_Bandit i get the different time zones idea. What if the derelict seen in alien is different from the one in prometheus? the fossilized one seen in alien could of crashed thousands of years ago when something burst through his chest. other SJ's have to follow on a clean up mission to sort out the mess he left. then somehow whatever being is left in the end of prometheus lays its eggs in the old derelict?

Yes I don't think it's fair to express impatience when similar threads / questions keep cropping up, when there's no search facility. especially on a site with so much content. It CAN be a bit annoying when someone posts a question which has been discussed to death, but without a search facility, and with so many new arrivals here, on a daily basis, it really is inevitable

Ah cool I'm glad others noticed this. It does look a lot smaller. I have the quadrilogy on DVD so I may have to watch at the weekend. I'm sure they say the Betty is an ancient relic of a spacecraft. Thay are all making fun of it when it docks ?

Another way to look at the possible scope of this thing: What if in the trailers for 2001:ASO they only showed scenes from the David-HAL act? That would be a considerable amount of crucial story they're not revealing. What if in Prometheus trailers we are mostly seeing scenes from one act, the crew vs. danger act? The disc over the waterfall could be a whole other act that takes place in pre-history; the blue guy and the jockey chair could be another act that takes place a few years after the Prometheus.

Snorkelbottom i believe the markings left on the wall were of a peaceful nature, but in the thousands of years since they were written some other beings landed on their planet killing them off. That or they are trying to create another species then the new lifeforms take over. Of the two im thinking the first scenario. The race that created life on earth being the craft over the water fall, the derelict being the blue dudes, the first ship being our creators obviously know where earth is and that could explane why the blue guy waited till humans came before heading off to earth Also has anyone touched on the point that no one might be even close to what the storyline could be? From how many minutes of trailers there are compared to hours of film time?? its fun guessing tho just saying

just FYI that whole thing exists today and is where they filmed and/or created many if not all the effects for Alien and where the Derelict is Stored between uses. They all still gather and work there. It's the British FX Lot for Ridley's Team. It is hosted by the Original FX director from Alien. A Good Friend Of Ridley Scott still today. I would not bother to waste your time.

Speaking of the timeline.. I will bring up this point that I mentioned in other topics again.... There was a prior space expedition with Weylands FIRST FTL capable science vessel, the HELIADES over 30 years prior !!! What became of that?? Actually if you look close at the landscape there are snow covered mountains in the distance. Not sure if they are going to replace them later or if they stay, this planet does not need to be terraformed. And the clouds and atmosphere look very earthlike except I guess you can't breathe the air.

Ill check out the trailers and read several, SEVERAL posts, but I cant spend 2-4 hours a day researching fanboys assumtions about what Ive already seen. There's a fine line between believing in a god and being 'religious'. I see her more as just a simple believer of some God. Many scientists, researchers, archeologists, etc. believe in some form of God, or something of that nature. You don't see many religious people digging up clues for extraterrestrial life. Politicians on the other hand... lol

^^^^ Thats what I liked about it. That is obviously something meant for humans, but I wonder. I think the inference was that the process could only work on someone/thing that had been placed in some kind of stasis but who knows?
