Lately, the BBC talk show The Graham Norton Show has been scoring some pretty high caliber guests - last week featured Star Wars prequel star Ewan McGregor and Jurassic Park legend Sam Neill. Appearing on last nights show were Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner who previously co-starred alongside each other, along with Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence in the critically acclaimed American Hustle, which was somehow completely overlooked by the Academy Awards (Bale's combover alone is worthy of an Oscar).
Last night Adams and Renner appeared on The Graham Norton Show, along with Irish comedian-actor Chris O'Dowd, to promote their forthcoming new movie Arrival, a movie which postulates first contact between ourselves and an alien race with a penance for large, turning, pebble-shaped spacecraft. In the movie, Adams play's linguist Dr. Louise Banks and Renner portrays mathematician Ian Donnelly. While bantering with their host and co-guest Adams and Renner reminisced about their experiences with French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, whom while fluent in French only seems to have a passing grip on the English language. Renner began by saying...
"He is a really calm and docile and loving and a really emotionally intelligent guy, but he would say the weirdest things because of his inability to really get his point across in English. He would try to direct us in a very quiet sense. He said something really inappropriate... what did he say to you?"
Renner gestured to Adams who took over briefly saying...
"He said 'Erm, I love that very much and I will now take you from behind!' I said 'I'm so sorry Denis...' it was in the middle of like a serious scene and I'm like 'I'm so sorry to be laughing,' and he's like 'what have I said? No, no, no. I think you mistook me; I mean I will take you from behind, but use a camera!'"
Amid barrels of laughter Renner took over, impersonating the director, who is currently directing Blade Runner 2049...
"He's like 'Amy, I'm gonna come very close and fuck us.' He says Fuck Us instead of Focus. He says 'Bradford fuck us. Bradford Fuck Us. Then, Jeremy, I'm gonna come over here and take the camera and now come on your face!'"
After showing a brief clip from the movie Adams was given the chance to promote another new movie in which she co-stars with Jake Gyllenhaal called Nocturnal Animals directed by Tom Ford.
Next week the Irish comedian host will be talking to Jack Reacher: Never Back Down stars Cobie Smulders and Tom Cruise. Which I'll, of course, cover over at Scified Heroes as part of a Guilty Pleasure.
