A segment from a movie-news page - makes me think of what the third in the series will be/should be called.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will see the sun set on James Franco's character
General opinion seems to agree that James Franco was far and away the weakest link to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, something Fox and director Matt Reeves seem to agree with as Franco has not been contacted by either party to reprise his role for the film's upcoming sequel DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
As per a recent interview that MTV conducted with Franco: "I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like [former Fox co-chairman] Tom Rothman who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert's not a part of it so I don't know. My guess is I won't be in it. Nobody's talked to me since Rupert left."
There are many questions left to be answered regarding DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, one of them certainly being just how extensive the human involvement will be. Andy Serkis and his fellow motion capture artists were most certainly the stars of the first film, and with the story having left off here it did it will be fascinating to see what direction Fox chooses to go with the next step of human-ape interaction. But how do you feel about Franco being gone, if that is indeed the case? Were you a fan of the work he did, was it fine but you'd prefer fresh faces for the sequel, or was his work/presence irrelevent because it's all about the apes to you?
You can look for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES to arrive in theaters on May 23rd, 2014.

In part a shame but in a way to some degree relevant as the less human interaction there is on screen is, in many ways, an in-direct anaolgy to what is going on outside, en-masse, around the world with the human existance in crisis and that of the Apes on the rise to world-wide prominence.
My feeling is that the inevitable third installment should be titled: Empire of the Planet of the Apes as they have expanded their territory and that of their claim upon it and the world. Even less humans perhaps should feature within the third one as they are a speicies in decline yet we need some human inter-action in onefashion or another as we need someone or a few to equate the magnitude of what has been lost to time and folly. Hopefully told in a quite clever way so as it hints at reaching out towards futre timelines withing the franchise that otherwise have not yet had their moment in history with regards to the franchise.
In some ways the third film could finish with a hint that it in some ways connects with Tim Burtons, I say this because the astronaught returns in an alternate timeline and in many ways he could have jumped into the timeline where earth is at the tail-end of the conquering by the Apes and thus he arrives where they have fully adapted themselves and intergrated within their inherited 'human' society. One idea of may to explore and don't forget, the makers of Rise (otPotA) included the hint/nod towards the Icarus spachip from the original Charlton heston version. Also the liniage of the timeline of the originals have themselves not been severely compromised just elements combined and streamlined into a current and relevant trilogy that makes relevant sense to see the 'Mayan'-like collapse of one civilization in favor for the rise and advancement of another: think I Am Ledgend just with Apes instead of vapiric-like humans .
'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'
'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'
and
'Empire of the Planet of the Apes' ?

Interstellar-Movie.com AdminMemberNoobJan-03-2013 2:32 AMI cannot think of a finer title than "Empire of The Planet of The Apes". I enjoyed your predictions of the two upcoming sequels. The writer of "Contagion" is penning the second script, after a treatment from the originals writers. This is probably a sign that the ALZ-112 outbreak will be in FULL effect.

AdminAtmanJan-08-2013 9:39 AMGreat thread! I really enjoyed the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, even if the titles is a mile long. So, I'm very much looking forward to the subsequent sequels!
The original writers are busy with Jurassic Park 4, but I'm glad they had input on the sequel. And nice point there Travlis about Contagion's writer working on the new Apes film - he clearly has a good writing style for an outbreak of the ALZ-112 virus!
Planet of the Apes have always been a great franchise and an interesting one. I really hope we get some more news on this soon!
Hyped for: Alien: Romulus | Badlands (Predator 6) | Cloverfield 4

MemberNoobJan-15-2013 9:43 AMI also think as Empire of the planet of the Apes to me sounds intruiging so too I think: War of the Planet of the Apes does sound compellig as well. The stakes are inevitably going to be raised and so the conquest of the Earth will play out accordingly either by imperial means or war-like means.
