

That's something very interesting to think about. I agree that this subject is the heart of the genre of sci fi, but that doesn't mean 70's / 80's futuristic sci fi was very accurate...

Mad Max is great, but it is a completely different thing from SG. In fact, it makes SG look even more dire and visceral imo.

I agree, and you worded it better than I ever could :)
While the rest of the world is dire, serious and grim....then there is Australia amidst a crisis....in the Thunderdome.... screwin' around in a serious-but-not-so-serious way.
Give us a flood and you'll find someone using a BBQ as a boat just to take the piss :P
