The Guardians of the Galaxy had been following Thanos, and were approaching the location of the Asgardian massacre. Star-Lord piloted the ship, while Groot was playing video games in his seat, uninterested.
"Groot, put that thing away," Quill told the sentient tree. "I don't want to tell you again."
Groot ignored Star-Lord, who was beginning to lose patience. "Groot."
"I am Groot," the Flora colossus retorted.
"Whoa!"
Star-Lord knew he was getting closer to their destination, and warned the others. "Alright Guardians, don't forget this might be dangerous, so let's put on our mean faces."
The Benatar stopped upon seeing the dead bodies and rubble floating about in space. Mantis was taken aback by the carnage they saw. "What happened?"
Suddenly, a body hit the windshield, causing Rocket to panic. "Wipers! Wipers! Get it off!"
The Guardians brought the body inside their ship, revealing his identity as Thor. Star-Lord was in shock, wondering how he was still breathing. "How is this dude still alive?"
"He is not a dude," Drax responded. "You're a dude."
"This--" pointing to Thor, he continued. "This is a man. A handsome, muscular man."
Gamora ran her hand over Thor's left bicep. "It's like his muscles are made of fibers."
Seeing Gamora admiring another man angered Peter. "Stop massaging his muscles."
Gamora released his arm as Quill talked to Mantis. "Wake him up."
Mantis gently placed her hand on the God of Thunder's forehead. He jolted awake, staggering forward, his back facing the group. Breathing heavily, he leaned his hand on a wall for support as he turned around, Mantis waving. "Who the Hell are you guys?"
Peter introduced himself first. "I'm Star-Lord."
Thor did not recognise the name. "Who?"
"Star-Lord, man." Peter's disappointment showed in his voice. "Legendary outlaw. Anyway, we're the Guardians of the Galaxy."
Thor introduced himself. "I'm Thor, son of Odin."
Peter raised an eyebrow. "I think I've heard of you. What were you the god of again?"
"The God of Thunder. And now I know what it's like when all hope is lost."
Gamora stepped forward. "Explain."
"A big purple dude, bigger than me, attacked my ship and killed my people, including my brother. He had a golden glove with a shiny purple rock in it."
Gamora gasped at Thor's story. "That's my adoptive father. The entire time I knew him, he only ever had one goal: to wipe out half the universe. He kidnapped me as a child and wiped out my homeworld's population."
"What's his name?"
"Thanos."
"I need a new weapon to stop him, but I'm going to need some help," Thor felt a sense of urgency, turning to Rocket and Groot. "Could you guys come along?"
"I think we'll pass," said Rocket. There was a long silence before he continued, "Just kidding. We're in."
"I am Groot," Groot said, still playing his video game.
"I'm going after my father," Gamora said with determination in her voice.
"Alright, so we'll split up then," Star-Lord said. "Rocket, you and Groot will go with Thor to make a new weapon. Gamora, Drax, Mantis and I will follow Thanos."
"Sounds like a plan," Rocket replied. "Thor, come with me."
Thor followed Rocket and Groot, the latter of whom was still playing. They stepped into a small ship that was reminiscent of an escape pod. Rocket pushed a button, jettisoning it from the Benatar.
Star-Lord piloted the main ship, still following the Sanctuary II, although they were farther away from it than before they met Thor.
