To me for a film that is so dedicated to paying homage to japan's giant mecha anime and kaiju Cinema, i felt that they could have given japan more of a crucial role in the film.
Yeas I know that the shatterdome is in hong kong and mako is Japanese, but the movie isn't about the dome's or really even the people It's about the Jaegers. And Japan, imo, should have had one that played a heavier role than a sad flash back.
I don't want to offend any Australians but I would have liked styker Eureka to have been Japan's jaeger rather than Australia's. That would have been the icing on the cake for this movie.
Any thoughts?

MemberNoobJul-15-2013 8:43 PMWe only see Coyote Tango in Mako's memory. From what is said of this Jaeger, it is retired now and probably in a museum.
Still, maybe we will see Coyote come back or Japan have another Jaeger. A fitting name would call it the Mifune after the most famous actor in Japan who is known for being a tough fighter in his films. Miyamoto Musashi would also work as naming it after Japan's most legendary samurai fighter would be a great honor. Musashi was well known for his skills in combat and kills he's made. A Jaeger named after him would be very cool.
Funny the Serizawa scale was not once mentioned in the movie as it's named after Dr. Serizawa from the original 1954 Godzilla movie. Could there maybe be a link here between the real Godzilla and Pacific Rim?

Sure, there's the Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha crews, but they last what... a couple of minutes? Until *surprise* here comes the american-made jaeger to save the day. Nobody even mourned the other crew's losses.
Good thing is, the universe made for Pacific Rim by Del Toro's people has a ton of possibilities. If they ever make a prequel (I'd like that over a sequel), there's a possibility to see not only Coyote Tango in action, but also Tacit Ronin, the other japanese jaeger, among others. I'd personally love to see the South American ones too, as well as Cherno Alpha dishing the pain instead of just receiving.
