The glowing kaiju

It jsut dawned on me looking at this pic of Leatherback. http://www.pacificrim-movie.net/media/Pacific_Rim_Main_Trailer_43.jpg The glowing patterns and even inside their mouths are their energy to use as a weapon. I mean look at the photo when Leatherback is about to fire. His weapon is sucking in the energy from the glowing patterns on his body prior to firing.

Yeah it seems that Leatherback has some sort of EMP attack. I want to know if ever Kaiju has a special energy attack, or if it's only certain ones.

From reading tales from year zero. I noticed that the first Kaiju does not have any power strips..... But by the time the fourth Kaiju attacks Canada the power strips are present. I think the Kaiju become more advanced each time as our enemy learns our strengths and weaknesses
