Why were these robots called Jaegers?

It's funny how these "Jaegers" are named what they are. Mainly since I am a gymnast, when I first heard the word, I thought of the gymnastics skill first. I never thought these colosal robots would be called that as well. But I kind of want to know why? I'm not hating on it, if any of you think so. I am just curious.

Well Jäger, it is a fighter. I t could be DC67 is right about relate the term with the german. Jäger also is a German mercenary ¨Hessian¨, used by British in the Revolutionary war of Unite States, they are showed in Assassin's Creed 3. Maybe in his mental searching between projects the Jäger's appeared.. ^^ we will see in July. Eli is a gymnast, thats so cool.
The world will spin well past our last breath, but I will always care about you
