When Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was cancelled after its second season, viewers were shocked. The offering from Josh Friedman had everything that sci-fi fans wanted from a spinoff. It disregarded the events of the poorly received Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and followed on from the hugely popular Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It also had the excellent Lena Headey in the lead role, with Thomas Dekker and Summer Glau as supporting characters.
The strange thing is that the Terminator franchise is still going strong in popular culture, suggesting that there’s a huge market out there for content in the post-apocalyptic world. TSCC has often been regarded among the television shows most deserving of another season, as it garnered high audience ratings during its run. In fact, season two had a highly impressive 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Friedman has already announced that there was a third season planned before the cancellation, meaning that it could be ready to go if a production company picks it up. There has been talk of another feature film from James Cameron, so a reboot of the series could act as a promotion for that.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles would have arguably enjoyed greater viewing figures if it had been released in the streaming age. Now would be the ideal time to bring it back and use it to promote a new Terminator movie.
