After being killed twice at the hands of the humans and the Autobot leader Optimus Prime Megatron was resurrected by KSI as Galvatron using his remains and the cybertronic material known as Transformium. After failing to acquire the cybertronic weapon known as the Seed Galvatron was able to slip away unnoticed as Optimus Prime, his Autobot comrades, and the Dino-Bots battled the Transformer bounty hunter Lockdown in Hong Kong. After defeating Lockdown Optimus Prime left Earth to seek out his creators, an alien species known as the Progenitors, the same alien race that wiped out life on Earth 65 Million years ago. Reborn as Galvatron, Megatron remained on Earth, his whereabouts and the locations of his Decepticon brethren are unknown.
Transformers: The Last Knight, due for release in theaters next summer and directed (allegedly for the last time) by Michael Bay, will be the first movie of the multi-billion dollar movie franchise to be written by Akiva Goldsman's writing team including some of Hollywood's most promising screenwriters. The movie will see Optimus Prime (pictured above) explore his lineage as the last of the Knights Terminus, an ancient order of honorable warriors created by the Progenitors who were sworn to protect the Allspark and can be identified by the markings they share with the ancient Cybertronic artifact.
While Optimus Prime uncovers the secrets of his and the Transformers past back on Earth Kade Yaeger (Mark Wahlberg), Lt. Col. William Lennox (Josh Duhamel reprising his role from the first trilogy), Bumblebee and the rest of the Autobots will be challenged with the return of Megatron with his all new Transformium body making the Decepticon leader a force to be reckoned with, but will Megatron be content without a soul or will he seek out his decapitated head, currently in the possession of KSI. Either way, it seems the infamous warmongering Transformer will be sporting a new look (as pictured above), as will fan-favorite Bumblebee, whose new "car mode" will be the all new custom built 2016 Chevrolet Camaro (pictured below).
The Transformers movie series has included some of Hollywoods premier actors in guest appearances including Jon Voight, John Turturro, Tony Todd, the late and great Leonard Nimoy, John Malkovich and Kelsey Grammer. For the next installment British actor, Anthony Hopkins will be joining the cast, although whether the legendary actor, famous for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter will be joining the human cast or lending just his voice talent is as-of-yet unknown.
Fan speculation and rumor also suggest that with The First Knight exploring the backstory of the Transformers in more depth that there is a strong possibility that the movie could, at the very least, introduce Unicron; the Transformers ultimate enemy. With some fans suggesting the possibility that Optimus Prime may return to Earth corrupted and to be working with Unicron. This evil incarnation of Optimus Prime is known as Nemesis Prime and is often depicted as Unicron's champion; being considered the second most dangerous threat the Transformers have ever faced. With Unicron possibly playing such a key and villainous role, could Hopkins be lending his voice and likeness to the fearsome Harbinger of Chaos?
Transformers: The Last Knight, which begins filming soon in Detroit, Michigan will also star newcomer Isabela Moner and comedian Jerrod Carmichael and is expected to hit theaters worldwide June 23rd, 2017.
