Earlier this month, the 9 th edition of the Beijing International Film Festival opened with a Sci-Fi
blockbuster in the Science and Technology section. The film titled “The Wandering Earth” was
the biggest blockbuster released during the spring festival holiday. Shown in 3D, the film takes
place towards the end of the century, where the sun is about to engulf the earth.
The blockbuster is based on a Chinese Sci-Fi novel authored by Liu Cixing, taking the audience
on an epic journey through space. The 125-minute film comes with fantastic visual effects and stars like Wu Jing, the martial expert, and actor who also helped fund the project. This movie puts China on the global Sci-Fi blockbuster map, grossing over $690 million worldwide.
According to China’s Science and Technology Museum curator, Yin Hao, the museum has been exploring advanced film technologies used to create special effects. He also revealed that the science & technology section offers engaging science film exhibits to the public. Yin was speaking at the opening ceremony.
The section focuses on promoting scientist’s attempts to showcase the prosperity of Chinese science fiction movies. That enhances the public’s experience and allows them to enjoy scientific experiences in film. Yin also believes that this will enhance the role of movies in boosting and promoting science as Betway continues to promote different sports. Click https://th.betway88.com/ to check out games from the top leagues in the world with the best odds on the market. Betway also features a good number of virtual games.
This year’s festival lasts until April 20 th , consisting of seven major activities. That includes the opening ceremony held on April 5 th , a film market, a forum and Film Panorama created for the public. The Film Panorama focuses on the spirit of scientists’ film, special effects film and science fiction movies.
During the festival, 12 countries including China, Belgium, and the United States will showcase
a total of 31 films to the audiences. The event will also include a number of science fiction films and biopics on scientists.
As revealed by the film festival organizers, the Science popularization section will present a film carnival for the first time. This section integrates scientific experiences with parent-children interaction in a film using advanced technology to allow the audience to enjoy the wonders of
science. That includes a VR/AR technology exhibition, a 4D seat experience, creativity building, and a Lego film element exhibition.
The festival will also feature a “Masterpiece Appraisal and Selection” where a panel of experts and a public jury will select the best popular Sci-Fi films. Other categories will include the best special effects films, best creative films, a best film based on the viewer recommendation and
best domestic films.
Yin believes the “Science and Technology” section is a huge event in the ever-growing science film industry. In his statement, the Chinese curator said the festival is a platform for learning, negotiating, exchanging and viewing movies for science popularization. The section was created earlier last year at the eighth Beijing International Film Festival.
