When does the next Planet of the Apes movie after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes come out? According to 20th Century Studios' boss Steve Asbell, the next Apes sequel is coming in 2027! While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Asbell touched on the Studios' efforts to properly map out the cadence at which to release new installment franchise blockbusters, Apes movies being one of those franchises along with Avatar, Alien and Predator.
THR: Where is the balance between originals and franchise plays?
Asbell: Right now it’s looking like next year, half the slate. Job one was figuring out these franchise movies first and coming up with the right cadence of Avatar, Apes, Alien and Predator specifically. Getting those right was the first part, which we’ve done now. And so that idea is to be able to say, “Okay, we know when the Avatar movies are coming. We know now about Predator. There’ll be another Apes in ‘27, let’s just say.”So knowing where we can plan those franchises, it helps us look to see and ask what kinds of original movies in terms of genre do we want to test the marketplace with?
At this point we don't have a title, plot outline or even director to announce for the next Apes movie yet, but given the 2027 release window, we expect those details will become available at some point in the next 6 months. As new information comes available, we'll keep you posted!
