The gaming scene has arguably never been as big as it is today, with gamers now having a huge selection of games and types of games to choose from. With each player having their own individual tastes which range from spinning the reels on the brilliant Fruit Machine by those guys at mFortune, enjoying some Battle Royale in Treyarch’s Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout, testing their skills playing Sudoku or going on an epic sci-fi adventure, there will always be content to suit everyone’s tastes.
We’re now over two months into 2019 and where sci-fi is concerned it’s set to be a big year for the genre, with some fantastic titles to come. We’ve picked out some of the most exciting sci-fi games to look out for over the coming months.
Anthem
We kick things off with a game which has recently dropped and it’s already causing a big stir in the gaming scene. Anthem, which is developed by BioWare and published by EA, is a sort of sci-fi RPG title and this is great news as BioWare have hit the high notes in the past in this area with games such as Mass Effect.
In Anthem, players will have to visit another world where most of the inhabitants are being kept behind large walls in order to keep them safe. As a Freelancer, the player can move freely beyond the wall to assess the situation. They will be required to don a Javelin, which is a special suit, while also having to deal with hostilities that may arise.
Gears of War 5
Gears of War is by far and away one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time, with each instalment being a big hit with players and rightfully receiving critical acclaim along the way. 2019 is the year when The Coalition and Microsoft have said the fifth instalment will drop, and anticipation is already building.
In Gears 5, players will assume the role of a COG army member known as Kait Diaz, who has been suffering from disturbing dreams. The dreams will play a big role in the storyline of the game as Kait feels they will lead her on a journey, and it’s one that will ultimately reveal the origins of Locust.
Doom Eternal
Doom is an instantly recognisable name in the gaming world, with many people able to recall playing an instalment or two of what has been a very successful franchise. Doom made a bit of a comeback several years ago as a reboot of the original was released which unsurprisingly was a huge hit with gamers.
The latest instalment, which is due for release this year, will see players take on the role of Doom Guy once again. Doom Guy will be tasked with heading back down to Earth to help deal with the latest alien invasion in what is likely to be an epic adventure. It’s believed the brilliantly fun Doom gameplay will be back, with additional features helping to take things to the next level.
