The Meg turned out to be a rather unexpected success when it released in theaters last year. The Jason Statham led summer action blockbuster proved to be a fun ride, full of thrills, brilliant effects and a healthy dose of comic relief. Moviegoers who enjoyed the Shark flick will be pleased to know that a sequel is currently in the works!
During a press junket for the upcoming Pet Sematary reboot, Cinemablend asked producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about the state of The Meg's sequel. He replied by confirming the film was currently being written:
We’re working on a script. Yeah. So you never know until you get a good script. … I was very thankful that the audience got that we were just trying to have fun, [and] not take ourselves seriously at all.
The Meg was adapted from the popular novel by Steve Alten. As plot details arise concerning the film's sequel, we'll be sure to keep you updated!
