Speaking with IGN at last night's BAFTA Game Awards, 'The Last of Us' creator Neil Druckmann said the movie would be a direct adaptation of the game.
"It's an adaptation of the story of 'The Last of Us'. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."
This follows the news that broke last week, announcing Screen Gems would be releasing a film adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game. Neil Druckmann, the creative director for the game, will be writing the script. Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures company are also attached to the project.
