The International 2022 is Valve's most prestigious Dota 2 tournament. The event will take place at Singapore's Suntec Arena and Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The International 2022 is the eleventh tournament in the series. The dates will be from 15.10.2022 to 30.10.2022.
Prize pool
The International has an initial prize pool of USD 1,600,000 and the remaining sum will be raised from Fan ID card sales.
Last year, Valve did not issue a separate Battle Pass for The International 2021 and simply moved the proceeds from last year's Battle Passes into the tournament prize pool, a little over $40 million. This is the largest prize pool in the history of esports live betting.
Unlike CSGO live bet, this is a very astounding amount. The previous record belonged to TI9 - $34.3 million.
Tournament location
This year, for the second time in history, the tournament will be held in Asia, Singapore. Specifically, the event will be held at two different venues. The playoffs will be played in the Suntec Singapore stadium, while the championship finals will be played in Singapore's indoor stadium.
Participants
The format remains the same, but the number of participants has been increased from 18 to 20. This year's event will be attended by:
- 12 teams from the Dota Pro Circuit season;
- 6 teams that have qualified for regional qualification, one from each region;
- 2 teams that have qualified for the Wildcard.
According to the company, the official website of the DPC reflects the current situation for the season 2021/2022. The teams who have finished second and third in the regional qualifiers will qualify for the Last Chance. 12 teams will compete for two slots at The International 2022.
On August 15, Valve amended the Dota Pro Circuit rankings on the official Dota 2 website. The list is fully consistent with the rankings from Liquipedia, with the exception of Virtus.pro's position.
Format
Group stage (October 15 - 18) with layoffs (Oct. 20-23, Oct. 29-30):
- two groups of 10 teams;
- two weakest teams in each group forfeit the championship;
- four best teams from each group qualify for the knockout rounds;
- 5-8 of each group qualify for the lower play-off spots.
Valve have entrusted the PGL to host three rounds of The International 2022
PGL has been handed the rights to host three legs of The International 2022 for Dota 2. On the shoulders of the tournament operator will organize regional qualifications, Last Chance and the group stage of the event. This has been revealed on the company's official website.
At the time of publication of the news, it is unknown who will run the main stage of the tournament, which is divided into two stages.
The International 2022 will take place from October 15-30 in Singapore. The playoff stages will be played in different stadiums. The prize pool for the championship is $1.6 million, but the amount will be increased through Battle Pass sales.
