The right stuff is an adaptation of the non-fiction novel the first 15 years of America's space programme which was written by Tom Wolfe. The film focuses on the lives of the Mercury astronauts who are played by Ed Harris and Scott Glenn.
The film centres on the lives, dangers and frustrations experienced by early NASA experiments and depicts their family lives and personal crises during a period of political upheaval and technological advancement. We are betting that this film will be remade with a 2020 twist sometime soon as it's incredibly relatable in today's day and age and for these reasons, it makes it a timeless classic and one to watch.
United 93: A Gripping True To Life Plane Movie
While we wouldn't recommend this film for a fun, family movie night. United 93 makes for a thought-provoking watch. This true to life story will invoke your emotions will show how the passengers of flight United 93 reacted. The flight was destined to hit a US target used as a weapon against the American government and people. Mainly down to the courage and bravery of those on board, the plane missed its mark. It later crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Missing its intended target.
Top Gun: Action-Packed Plane Themed Movie
Starring Tom Cruise, this action-packed film opens with a Navy Pilot lying upside down just inches above a Russian Mig. Tom Cruise AKA Top Gun then snaps a polaroid picture of the enemy pilot and then flips him the finger. If you are a fan of films with military aircraft that show their abilities, then this film is one of the best plane movies of all time.
Air Force One: The Best Political Plane Related Movie of All Time
After making a speech in Moscow pledging to never bargain with terrorists, President James Marshall performed by Harrison Ford boards Air Force One (the presidential plane) with his family his advisers. A group of terrorists hijacked the flight. Desperate to escape, ex-soldier Marshall, gets away in the aircraft but must race against the clock to rescue his family and those on board. It's a gripping film and keeps your attention and a great plane themed movie for enthusiasts.
Sully: Hero Pilot Plane Movie
The film is based on a true story, and the real event from the film took place on January 15th, 2009 when Sully glided his malfunctioning plane and landed it on the Hudson River. The world was witness to the bravest aeroplane landing seen in modern times, where all passengers survived the crash. As a result of these incredible events, the pilot, named Sully, was branded a hero. The film captures the heroism, emotion and celebrations of all those on board the flight and there are lovely clips of the real event shown in the film and is a beautiful watch.
Flight: Plane Movie
Commercial airline pilot Whip Whitaker played by the fantastic Denzel Washington has an unfortunate problem with drink and drugs. So far he had managed to complete all of his flights safely, but his luck suddenly runs out when a malfunction sends him and his plane hurtling towards the ground. He pulls off an incredible crash landing. This film has pilots laughing around the globe but gripping. It is said that this film was loosely based on the Alaska Airlines Flight 261 that crash-landed in the year 2000. It's well worth a watch.
Hell’s Angels:
An oldie 1930's film but a classic and a great movie to watch if you're into planes. The film cost a miraculous 3 million dollars to make, which is a huge amount of money for the 30's film industry. The film stars Jean Harlow who at the time was just 18 years old. A great classic to watch.
Red Eye
Starring Cillian Murphy, famous for his part in Peaky Blinders, the Red Eye film does not disappoint. The film is a 2005 release that was directed by Wes Craven. The film is based on a story written by Carl Ellsworth and Dan Foos about an assassination attempt by terrorists aboard a flight to Miami. Thrilling and a must-see.
Snakes on A Plane
A crazy 2005 film where an agent takes on a plan of venomous snakes which have been released onto the aeroplane in order to kill a key witness to a crime. The plane is being from Honolulu to Los Angeles where the witness is set to testify against a mob boss.
