In a recent interview with Yahoo Canadian producer, writer, and director James Cameron revealed that the working title for the new Terminator movie is Dark Fate, as opposed to the previously believed title which was Terminator: Phoenix.
As with many fans of the Terminator franchise, and especially the first two installments which were written (with William Wisher Jr.) and directed by Cameron, I am hopeful that his return the franchise he created will be triumphant. However, with the movies reported disregarding of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation from its canon while recycling ideas already explored in those movies, together with Camerons statement in the aforementioned interview that the movie will be "female-centric" and Natalie Reyes recent comments that the movie will also be political, I cannot shake the feeling that the new Terminator movie's somewhat generic sounding working title of Dark Fate could be prophetic to the franchise's future, rather than the narrative of the movie.
Hopefully, a teaser and/or trailer can help turn this fan's ever-growing fear that this movie will join the list of ill-advised rehash movies seen in recent years (Ghostbusters, The Predator, RoboCop etc.).
