With the eagerly awaited The Force Awakens opening in theatres this december and the recent news that Looper director Rian Johnson will direct the next instalment in the space opera saga, Star Wars fans would be forgiven for thinking that any new announcements would be made in the near future. But alas Disney and Lucsfilm have not only revealed that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is to direct the first of the spin off movies, written by Chris Weitz but only last week they revealed the movies title - Star Wars: Rogue One.
Today brings the announcement that Edwards will regroup with Godzilla composer Alexandre Desplat (pictured) for the movie - the award winning french musician has also scored Argo, The Kings Speech and Zero Dark Thirty.
“We (Gareth Edwards and I) will make another movie together very very soon, which is a Star Wars spin-off.”
With speculation high as to the spin off's story, it does seem almost certain that the movie will be rebel alliance heavy, with the title character of Rogue One most likely being an X-Wing pilot; possibly Wedge Antilles (formerly portrayed by Denis Lawson). It is also known that The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Felicity Jones is set to star.
