Disney and LucasFilm have just officially announced the title for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII movie and it's got us very excited! The Last Jedi is the official title for Episode 8 and oddly enough, is accompanied by red Star Wars lettering, as opposed to the standard yellow font coloring choice. What this signifies could mean a very dark turn for the franchise and if one particular fan theory is correct, could shift the fate of the entire Star Wars saga.
We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.
THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017
The title The Last Jedi suggests there is in fact, only one Jedi left in the entire galaxy - Luke Skywalker. The red lettering and color red in general are directly associated with the Sith, or the Dark Side of the Force.
It was speculated upon last year that Rey would actually turn out to be a descendant of Darth Sidious, given a number of clues including her fighting style, her surprising sensitivity to the Force and the manner in which the Star Wars films link to one another. The theory suggests that Rey would be the Sith's prophecy of "the one which would bring balance to the force", but unlike Anakin, Rey may in fact shift the balance to the Dark Side, rather than the light by the time her character arc is complete. However, that is merely speculation at this point.
Regardless, we now have an official title and an official logo for Star Wars: Episode VIII! Let the theories and speculation begin...
