Set after Kirk's reign as the Captain of the USS Enterprise, but set before Jean-Luc Picards command of the legendary vessel the new Star Trek series which will begin production this fall in Toronto, Canada before airing on CBS in January 2017. Hoping to recapture the magic and wide appeal of the original series and its follow up The Next Generation, the new Star Trek series showrunners are Bryan Fuller and Nicholas Meyer, both having served the star trekking franchise in their past with Fuller having worked on Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Voyager, and Meyer having worked on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
There is still no word on the series casting, but usually, with the Star Trek TV series, most of the cast will be relative unknowns with a few familiar faces appearing in guest roles (Think of Whoopi Goldberg's Guinan, for example).
