Despite everyone hoping that a Judge Dredd TV series starring Karl Urban was in development, it appears the latest Dredd series rumor have proven to be untrue. Rebellion CEO and Judge Dredd rights holder Jason Kingsley has publicly dispelled rumors of a Karl Urban led Dredd series.

Back in 2017 it was first proposed that a Judge Dredd series, Mega-City One was in the works. At the time, Kingsley and producer Brian Jenkins were working on Judge Dredd: Mega-City One instead of developing a sequel to the 2012 film, but the project was still years away from coming to fruition. Three years later the world experienced the Coronavirus pandemic and that basically killed all momentum Mega-City One had generated. It's also worth noting that at the time, there were never concrete plans to cast Karl Urban in the series.

Recently rumors have begun to circulate suggesting the Dredd series was back in development at Amazon Studios, with Karl Urban reprising his role as the iconic Judge. The rumors have gained enough traction that it prompted a public response by Jason Kingsley himself, to which he addressed:

I've just been surprised by the latest rumour about a Judge Dredd series by Amazon and the producers of the Boys and starring the excellent Karl Urban. That would be great potentially, but I'm pretty sure we'd have had to negotiate a contract and been part of the creative process.
To summarise, it isn't true.
Sadly, the rumor is not true. However that's not to say a Judge Dredd series might not gain some traction in the future. If anything, the rumors have shown just how much interest there is in such a series. Time will tell, but for now - sadly - there is no Dredd series starring Karl Urban in development.
