The sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim has tapped Jurassic World scribe Derek Connolly for script revisions! After his success co-writing the fourth Jurassic Park installment along with director Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly will be lending his storytelling abilities to Pacific Rim 2, currently dubbed 'Maelstrom'. The extent of Connolly's involvement has yet to be revealed.
The script for Pacific Rim 2 has already been worked on by del Toro himself, Avengers writer Zak Penn and Prometheus' Jon Spaihts. Though the official plot remains under wraps, the last we heard, the sequel would take place many years after the original and explore more of the Kaiju's origins. The only actors expected to reprise their roles were Charlie Day and Burn Gorman, who played the Kaiju-obsessed scientists in the first film, however other familiar faces could return as well.
Daredevil season 1's Steven DeKnight will be directing the Pacific Rim sequel with Guillermo del Toro remaining on as a producer. A release date has not yet been set.
Derek Connolly has also worked on Legendary and Universal's Jurassic World 2, as well as their other Monster-feature Kong: Skull Island.
As new details concerning Pacific Rim 2 are released, be sure to keep it locked to Scified!
