Alien movies have always had a place in a sci-fi fan’s heart. With that being said, some of them stand out more than others. If you’re ready to take a deep dive into the creepiest alien movies to hit the big screen, take a look below.
Alien
The crew manning the Nostromo spaceship comes across a distress signal, which they choose to investigate. It takes them to a new planet, but soon after they are attacked by a terrifying beast which will stop at nothing to survive. Sigourney Weaver gives a fantastic performance in this movie and there have also been several spinoffs. Alien movies are so popular that they have even inspired space-themed games, some of which include Alien: Isolation. That’s not the only game that’s been inspired by the space and alien theme though. Paddy's online bingo games are also known for touching on alien invasions, as seen in games like Slingo Cosmic Clusters. In this game, you’ll see several colorful aliens on the screen. The game takes you to a whimsical universe where you’ll come across different galaxies and starships. Although most alien-inspired games are terrifying, there's a nice mixture of games out there that explore the lighter side of things, which helps to provide sci-fi fans and gamers with a nice balance.
Color Out of Space
The Gardners want a new start, so they decide to move to a derelict farm in the middle of nowhere. A meteorite crashes right outside their house and soon after, things take a turn for the worst. Richard Stanley directed this movie, and it was distributed by RLJE Films. It’s a beautiful movie that encompasses the supernatural theme perfectly. The Theresa-Jack monster is terrifying and makes the film worth the watch. Alien movies have been getting steadily creepier as time goes on, moving away from little green men to terrifying beings that have frightening agendas. This movie is just one example of that, but either way, it’s worth the watch and certainly worth the time.
Village of the Damned
This movie was brought to the big screen by the legendary John Carpenter. In the village of Midwich, something happens every day. Anyone who dares to fall asleep in the village comes under a spell. It turns out the people are being controlled and terrorized from within. The movie taps into fears of a pending alien invasion, as well as mind control from a higher being. Even though you don’t see any aliens in this movie, the fact that everyone eerily stares you down is enough to give any sci-fi fan goosebumps. This movie leans away from stereotypical aliens and instead focuses more on alien mind control, but with that being said, it’s a fantastic watch and if you are a fan of the genre then you won’t want to miss out on it.
So, as you can see, there are many creepy alien movies out there, from possessed villagers to space creatures that prowl spaceships with relentless aggression. The alien topic has been widely explored, but it's interesting to see so many variants. It’s things like this that help to keep fans of the sci-fi scene constantly guessing about what’s going to be released next.
