When the Pacific Rim Uprising trailer debuted online, many fans were quick to notice the Jaeger Gipsy Avenger battling what was clearly another Jaeger during one of the short cutscenes. That other Jaeger sports dual orange chainsaw blades and has a black paint job. The name of this rogue Jaeger is called OBSIDIAN FURY, an experimental new Jaeger who eventually turns on the rest of the Jaeget fleet as the trailer teased.
We can exclusively reveal without spoiling too much, that the reasoning behind Obsidian Fury going rogue is a result of its controlling system. Unlike the rest of the Jaegers who require Human pilots to manage the Jaeger and its movements, Obsidian Fury is equipped with a different control system. We don't want to spoil this fairly big plot detail, but had to shed some light on why this Jaeger and Gipsy were seen fighting in the trailer.
